I guess I better learn what all those #'s mean:rolleyes1

50mm is the focal length. It is a prime (no zoom). Primes are usually faster and sharper. The 1.8 is the f stop. The lower the number the faster the lens (it allows more light in).

I highly recommend getting Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson
http://www.amazon.com/Understanding...1203124?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1181224260&sr=8-1

It explains everything well and is easy to understand. Plus, visit the photography board. They are EXTREMELY helpful and very knowledgable.

I have been looking for something like a 75 - 300mm IS Zoom lens. Sears has one for $650. I'll have to look on Ebay to see if I can find a used one cheaper. I currently have 3 lenses - I have a Tamron 28-300mm zoom lens, a Canon 18-55 lens, and the Canon 50mm 1.8 lens.
sounds like a good combination to have. I really need to get the 28-300. $650 is probably a pretty good price for the 75-300 is lens...I am use to going on ebay all the time looking for Nascar cars for Mike:laughing: craigslist.org can be a good place too look too ;) just be careful...I've sold tons of stuff on there but you have to really watch people wanting to send you money orders etc that are not valid. that is why I stick w/paypal! very easy.
Linda- Kenny looks so cute in his pics!

Today Steven and me are going with his coworkers for happy hour!
thanks. I had so much fun playing w/the camera. I took so many cute pix!! Have fun at happy hour. does that mean you are feeling better today ;) hope so:hug:

Linda: I'm glad you like your new camera. It's so fun having a new toy to play around with, isn't it?

"Oh that looks very nice. It's much more slimming than what you usually wear." Um... thanks?

"I love this kitty, she is my best friend." It was just so cute and sweet!!
yes, I just need to learn how to use it properly:rolleyes1
I'm w/ya there...thanks but what are you really trying to say:laughing: Emma is too cute!

gotcha :thumbsup2 (thumb) ;) I need all the help I can get:rotfl: I'll have to get that for sure! Thanks Amber!!

Yes, I am feeling much better today! :thumbsup2 (thumb) :teeth:

that is good:cool1: besides, the weekend is coming:woohoo: time for some fun!!!

I think this weekend is time to go up to the Cleveland zoo and the Museum of Natural History.... they both have lots of Dino stuff...Kenny has been wanting to go so bad!! Now I can take lots of cool pix at the zoo:banana:

Emma was so cute this morning, I took her into the bathroom at my mom's house and just as she was finishing up, one of the cats came in to visit. This is the cat who usually hides all day, but loves attention -- on her own terms. I haven't seen her in weeks. So Emma sat in my lap and pulled Dusty into her lap, and was just hugging and kissing all over her. Dusty was loving it and had her motor running at full speed. I told Emma how purring means she's happy because cats can't smile, and she said, "If I pull on her whiskers she can smile!" It's amazing that cat likes her, but she does. Then Emma hugged her again really tight with her cheek pressed against Dusty's little head and said, "I love this kitty, she is my best friend." It was just so cute and sweet!!

That's sweet!

pozey: It sounds like Mrs. Pozey is having a fantastic time. Maybe she can get that transfer to Tampa, how great would that be?!?
Yes, she is having a blast. But she, like myself, will have a good time no matter where she is. We have a blast together.

One of the members of the group that she is with is from the St. Petersburg office. She has told DW that she would have no problem transferring there if she wanted to. I think the big issue for us would be trying to find a house comparable to what we have now for a price that we could afford.

Hi to everyone else and I hope everyone has a great day!! It is VERY windy here, there are tree limbs down all over town. Yesterday after work there was a huge branch in the empty parking space next to my car, and the tree was on the other side of my car. I didn't see any damage, so it must have flew over my car and not across the top. Whew! Today is still very windy - trees are sideways - and supposed to be stormy this afternoon. Yay. I just hope it's nice tomorrow. One of my coworkers is organizing an informal happy hour at a patio bar and I'd really like to attend without getting blown down the street.
Yep, we are getting that wind too. It was very windy yesterday and is still very windy this morning.

In fact, when we were pulling out of the driveway this morning, I noticed one of my Redbud trees had blown over. Now, I have known for a couple of years that it was weak. I don’t know why it was weak, but I could just tell. We planted it at least 5 years ago, and it just has not done all that well.

Here is a picture of said tree probably a year or so ago: It is the one the left side of the picture.

It just blew over at the base.

that is awesome she's having such a good time:cool1: FL would be tempting!!

your tree blew over:eek: that's not good!!

I took your advice and bought that book, another book and the canon backpack:cool1: that should be perfect for wdw ;), and the ball field, soccer field...ok... perfect for about anywhere you want to take a camera and lenses and not be so bulky ;):yay:

Aaaack! I'm suddenly going into Planning Overload! I've decided I might want to cancel our dinner at CRT (I know I know, that's DIS blasphemy!) because the menu is so limited and from what I've read here, they've changed the character interaction so it's now more like a show with the Fairy Godmother and the mice, which isn't really what we wanted. Also I'm the only one who really gives a hoot about eating inside the castle. I'm also cancelling a Norway breakfast for me and the girls, after looking at the menu - it's all hot breakfast like eggs and omelettes, and we like pancakes and waffles. I was going to pay OOP for myself, and I know the kids are going to have extra credits because Lyzzie usually doesn't order anything and just eats someone else's salad or shares with Emma, so we were going to use those. But not if we don't like the food - the princesses are not THAT important to us.

SO, that leaves us with a few "extra" DDP credits. I called to talk to my mom about it, and she basically wants to recreate last year's trip. Y'know, "I liked this, and I liked that, and I really liked this." I'd rather try new places that I haven't been than do the same thing we did last year, but toss in a few favorites. Anyway, I told her we'd have to extend the trip to 2 weeks to fit in everything she was suggesting! She suddenly wants to change everything, and eat more at the resorts than in the parks. Last month it was "I like buffets, but do whatever you want" and now it's "I like fun places like WCC and Hoop-De-Doo, can't we do those and the Luau? Can we do breakfast? What are we doing for lunch? Can we have steak every night? Is there anyplace we can see the fireworks? Isn't there a new Italian place opening up? Where did we have that really good chicken?" Aaaaaarrrrghhh!!

Ok I feel a little better now. Looks like I'll be tweaking the itinerary a bit this evening. Anyone know how late 407-WDW-DINE is open for phone calls? (The sad thing is... I have it programmed into my cell phone.)

Lyzziesmom, I'm pretty sure WDW dining is opening until 10pm EST. I hope you get everything you want, and it all worked out!

Actually, I'm alittle worried about my itinirary myself. Three different places I have ADRs for, I'm not sure I want to eat there.. (Sci Fi Dine IN, we've eaten there before but it wasn't that good, Boma, and Planet Hollywood...) I'm not sure why, I just don't know if I want to eat at those places.....

We might be upgrading our hotel, and if we do, I will change some of them to accomodate our new location...I love Pop, but if we can upgrade, it would be great! (We are thinking of either Wilderness Lodge, The Contemporary, Poly or Yacht Club...) I am wishful thinking about those, but Jeremiah said we can price it and talk about if it any of those are available!

lyzziesmom.... you can see the fireworks from inside CRT..that was cool. Rose and Crown was cool view of Illuminations but I didn't care for the food myself and it was loud inside. Outside table would have been great. Le Cellier is a must for us!! Have fun RE-planning:hug:

dinner at crt also came w/a picture pkg w/Cinderella and a nice lithoprincess:but I think they changed it to the toys:rolleyes:

Linda: Yeah, they changed CRT to plastic wands, we have a ton of those already that the girls don't play with. And Mom wants to eat early every day (6:30) so no way would we see the fireworks during dinner. We're already doing LeCellier but Dad wants Concourse Steakhouse, he really liked it last time. It turned out to be a last-minute booking when our US day got rained out and we had extra DDP credits. I'm trying to talk them into some different places. We are also doing Chef Mickey's for a breakfast, and I'm NOT changing that one! Mom wants to do Crystal Palace, but I've done that almost every trip and although I like it, I'd rather try something else. She wants to do Sci-Fi again too, I have us booked at H&V but I'm ok with changing that. I love Sci-Fi! I'm sure we'll figure something out, there's plenty of time! I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!!

Ashley: Upgrading sounds great! I would love to upgrade, but I just don't have the extra cash right now. I really don't have enough for even the values, but I'm going to make it happen anyway. (priorities!!) Maybe next year if we can do the land/sea, we'll just have to see how it works out.

I can't remember why we picked October for the Cliqueless meet next year, but how flexible is everyone on that? If we could actually go before Sept. 17th, that would be a LOT better for me, because Lyzzie will still be 9 and a still a child by WDW standards. I know it's not all about me, but I'd hate to have to pay so much more for her just because she turned 10 a few weeks earlier. I know this is bad to ask, but do they check ID's for kids? Would I be able to pass her off as 9 if her bday was a matter of weeks ago? I know they don't check at WDW, but I was thinking more about the cruise portion, since you need passports and all. I'm such a horrible DISer sometimes!!

My parents passed my sister off as 9 when she was really 10 or 11.

Lyzziesmom, I think we were thinking October at first because it was our birthdays. It doesn't really matter to me when we can go. Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, my annual pass is going to expire next year on September 14, so I'd like to do the 'land' portion before then! (We do it this way so we only have to purchase 1 annual pass a year, it helps us with budgeting.)

Lyzziesmom, good luck with making new ADR's. If you don't want a long distance call, you can call 800-828-0228 option 3 for dining. I love 'Ohana, but I know you aren't into that. Kona is supposed to be great. I've only had breakfast, but I want to try dinner. The Brown Derby was excellent, but it's 2TS.

Ashley, that would be awesome to upgrade! I would love to, but we aren't even sure if we are going to be able to go in Sept. :guilty:

Linda, what other book did you get? I am hopng to get a new lens (18-200mm) and use that on my camera mostly. That way, I don't have to worry about changing lenses all the time (except for the 50mm).

Oh, you also may want to get a Rocket blower. It helps to clean off the sensor.

Whew! I got all the ADR's changed. It only took a 40 minute phone call. The lady just about cried when I told her I wanted to cancel CRT and the Norway princess breakfast, and I had 2 little girls! After talking to my parents I got a better idea of what they wanted, and I balanced that out with what I want, and since my brother never answers his phone, to heck with what HE wants!! We did end up at 'Ohana, because WCC and Liberty Tree (choices #1 and 2 for that day) were full, and 'Ohana is at 4:15!! Oh well, everyone's happy now -- for the time being. Now I just have to convert my nerdy spreadsheet into something that everyone else will understand.

Only 20 minutes until we can go get our free floats at Sonic, yay!!

It was so funny, a little while ago there was a severe weather warning on the tv (that's not the funny part). It was nice and sunny outside, and as soon as the tv said, "heavy rains may cause flooding," it was like the sky opened up and heavy rain stared POURING down in the front yard, but not the back! It started in the back a few seconds later, and the whole thing lasted all of 3 minutes. Lyzzie was so amazed how the rain started right as the tv warning mentioned it. Creepy!

Holy crap! Check out this email I just got from Disney Destinations:

Surprise, XXXXX Family!
We're offering you a FREE upgrade from the Disney Value Resort you booked for your upcoming stay (between 8/26 and 9/1/07) to your choice of either:
Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa—Where Victorian architecture winds through enchanting parks, waterways and golf course views...

OR

Disney's Old Key West Resort—Where the charm of a 1900s Key West-style resort meets the creature comforts of home.

So you get more of everything at no additional charge! Like more space for your family to move around in and more in-room amenities, including a microwave and wet bar. Think about it. With an upgrade like this, you'll be even closer to some amazing Disney golf, delicious Disney dining and a spa treatment or two! All just moments away from our four fabulous Theme Parks.
Wondering what you have to do to get your FREE upgrade? Simple. Just call. But hurry, the number of rooms allocated for this offer is limited!

No group rates or other discounts apply. Advance reservations required. Offer is nontransferable. Payment of original reservation balance required. Additional amounts will be due for any increase in length of stay.

Now here's what I'm wondering: See the part where it says "no other discounts apply"? Do you guys think that includes the free dining? Is that considered a discount, or a promo? That would be SO awesome if we could do this upgrade and keep the DDP. I'm going to call them tomorrow! Heck, I might even try tonight.
