I hope you all have a Magical Monday!!!:tinker:

Thank you so much for the Tonga Toast Donna!! That hit the spot!!

Okay, I thought a little Ice Cream might be nice!
3-ice-cream.jpg

Enjoy! :goodvibes
Thanks for the ice cream UnderDog!! I love ice cream!!

UnderDog: That ice cream really hit the spot! We got Emma's birthday coupon for a free ice cream at Cold Stone, but the girls were so crabby yesterday they didn't want to go. What kind of kids will turn down free ice cream?? :confused3

I’ve got one……Chase. Chase does not like ice cream at all. In fact, Chase is not a big dessert kind of person. If we go to a birthday party or any party that has cake and ice cream, he might eat a little bit of cake. Or if we go to a restaurant and order a dessert, he will take a bite or two, but that’s all.

Happy Birthday Kyle and Colleen!

Thanks for the ice cream Underdog!

Okay, I have an interesting question for the group. I wish DznyFan were around, because since she has a teenage daughter, she might have some input as well.

Remember me telling you that in the past couple of weeks we had gotten together with some old friends we hadn’t seem much of for several years? They have 2 children – a daughter who is 15 and will be a sophomore in HS next year, and a son that is 13. They are VERY active in Soccer. They play in various leagues year ‘round.

Anyway, we met up with them Saturday at a soccer tournament and watched both of them play. It was a weekend tournament, so both kids played several games Saturday and more on Sunday.

So, the mother of the two – who both DW and I have known forever, tells my DW that she found out that the daughter – who is 15 remember – had over 1500 text messages last month just from her coach. Her coach is 24.

Would that raise a red flag with you? Just a little background…….the entire family are wonderful, wonderful people. VERY active in their church. Very active. The husband is a deacon, they never miss a service, pray before dinner in restaurants, and are just really good people. Neither kid has ever been in any kind of trouble.

However, the mother is a little concerned that a 15 year old girl has 1500 text messages to/from her 24 year old soccer coach.

I’m not sure how I would feel. The sheer number of text messages is a little disconcerning.

Speaking of DznyFan.......Okay, I was....

Here is her schedule for today:

Monday, June 4
Epcot!
Lunch - Tangierine Cafe or Sunshine Seasons
Dinner - Cape May Cafe
Epcot for the evening - Illuminations!!

pozey, I think that would concern me. Are the messages coming mainly from the coach or does it go back and forth? If they are coming from the coach and the girl isn't responding (much) then she may not know what to do. She may be confused on how to handle it. If they are going back and forth they could be starting a relationship.

Also, just because she is active in church doesn't mean she isn't getting into anything bad (I hope that didn't sound rude). Several people I knew from church were doing some bad things when they were with friends (there is a well know preacher's kid here that makes his living selling drugs).

If I were the mom I would sit her down and talk to her. I hope nothing bad is going on, but you never know.

Pozey, your friend is right to be concerned. Getting 1500 text messages from a coach is NOT normal. I'm not sure how I would handle that situation. What phone carrier do they have? I ask because I know certain carriers have all text messages and you can read them online. I think Nextel (or whatever company they were bought by) is one of them. I hope its nothing but I get a bad feeling about that!!

I wanted to say this too but didn't know how to word it. When I was that age I attended a church and if you heard the stories of what those kids would do, it would make your hair curl! (it did mine!) I actually stopped attending that particular church it was so bad. :scared:

I agree. just that many texts would definitely raise a red flag for me regardless who it was from! I hope her mom talks to her.

pozey: I agree with everyone else. And Amber makes a very good point... I remember a girl in my church youth group whose parents were very active in the church, the girl was in all the youth activities, but as soon as all the adults were out of the room all she did was talk about how she sneaked out every night and drank and slept around. She was 14 and really had the wool pulled over everyone's eyes. All of us other kids were afraid to say anything to anyone because of her parents' positions in the church. In my experience, a lot of the kids from "good" families either feel the need to rebel more strongly than some other kids, and/or they are unprepared and just don't have the tools to deal with things that life throws at them, and so they make very bad decisions.

I do believe Sprint/Nextel is one of the carriers that lets you view text messages online. If I were that girl's mother, I'd be taking away her cell phone for a while until I got to the root of what's going on. I didn't even have 1500 text messages to/from my DBF when we were texting daily. That would be a HUGE red flag. Good luck to your friend!!

I hope DznyFan is having fun at Epcot today. I'm so jealous!!

Today is most definitely a Monday. I did a very stupid (but harmless) thing: I printed out some labels in my printer/fax and forgot to change the paper back to regular paper. So several people's faxes, including a few timesheets from remote employees, have come in on label paper. I feel like such a dope!

From what I understood, it went back and forth.

If they are going back and forth they could be starting a relationship.
That is kind of what would concern me. I was thinking something like a young girl who has a crush on her older coach. And instead of acting like an adult, the coach lets it happen.

Also, just because she is active in church doesn't mean she isn't getting into anything bad (I hope that didn't sound rude). Several people I knew from church were doing some bad things when they were with friends (there is a well know preacher's kid here that makes his living selling drugs).
No, it didn't sound rude. And I know that just being active in church doesn't automatically make you a good person. I was just basing it on the few times I have been around the young girl. I just sense that she is a genuinely good person. But that does not disqualify her from having a major crush on an older coach.

And that is what my keen sense of dad-ness tells me. (dad-ness :rotfl2: )

I sense that the girl has a crush on the coach. The coach has somewhat of a crush on the girl. And they are "flirting" via text messaging. Just my hunch. I could be way off base. It could be all soccer, practice, games, coach-player type messages.....

Yeah, I have first-hand knowlege of kids like that as well.

There were 2 guys in my church when I was growing up that were kids of very well respected members of the church. They weren't the preacher's kids, but close enough.

Most all the adults thought they were the sweetest, most kind kids in the world. But outside of church....... :scared1:

Now, I will say this about them........they both did eventually grow up and become good men.

I don’t know who their cell phone carrier is. I also don’t know how the mother found out about the text messages either. Since I don’t have text messaging with my cell phone, there were a few things I didn’t know about.

Does the number of messages show up on the statement? Also, since I don’t text message, I didn’t know if 1500 in a month is “average”. That equals out to about 50 a day. And while 50 in one day might be plausible, 50 a day EVERY DAY is a bit much.

I hope DznyFan is having fun at Epcot today. I'm so jealous!!
I'm jealous too. I want to be riding Soarin' RIGHT NOW!!!

That is a lot of text messages, even for a texting back and forth with friends. I would seriously be concerned if I was her parents. With all that you hear now a days. I would be having a serious talk with the other parents to find out if this is happening with other kids on the team as well as the coach and whoever runs the Soccer team.

there's no way I'd ever go to WDW in July. He seemed surprised to hear me say that!! Between the heat and the crowds, it just would not be worth it - but that's not to say I haven't at least considered it. :rolleyes1
been there in July....WAY too hot and crowded to even be enjoyable, for me anyway ;)

Happy 21st Kyle and Colleen:banana: :woohoo: :cool1:
