Who here has done or is doing a Custom Cake

My fiance and I haven't been able to decide on what style of cake we should choose. All of the standard ones that Disney normally does just don't really appeal to us.

Being a big Food Network fan, my fiance has seen way too many cool looking cakes on TV, and his reaction to most of the cake pictures Disney gave us was something along the lines of "Bleh, that's so boring. Not good enough piping or decoration" LOL.

I've skimmed through the post your cake pic thread, and still haven't found anything inspirational. So I thought I'd start a thread here that's just about custom cakes.

Did you or are you having a custom cake made? Would you mind posting a picture of it? Perhaps adding an inspiration pic also?

We weren't crazy about the standard cakes either, so we had them make ours from a picture in a magazine. They got everything exactly right except the colors, which came out maroon and salmon instead of fuschia and orange (our photographers tweaked our photos so you can't tell as much).

So if you do a custom cake, just be VERY specific and provide samples - like maybe paint chips or fabric - if the colors are a big deal to you.

Also, Disney can't do unusually shaped or carved cakes, like pillows or animals or whatever. Just round/square/hexagonal/etc.

You can do whatever you want....I requested chocolate chip cake for my flavor and got it.

Do you have any idea what you are looking for? It is tough to find something you know that you want but can't find a picture anywhere!

We're actually doing a custom cake for our wedding... I wasn't a huge fan of the choices that Disney had on CD, but I also couldn't find an exact cake that I loved in magazines and online. Therefore, at my planning session, my mom, myself, Carol Mikles, and Laura Kidd all sat down and created this cake:

It's actually inspired from this cake, but with a few key differences. Mine is a little less "foufy"- less bows, ribbon, and lace. Also, I'm adding green orchids and orange calla lily fresh floral accents and an entire extra layer:

I'm thrilled with the sketch, so I hope it will come out just as nice!!

We're having a custom cake as well, based on our invitations and a picture of an old art deco lighting fixture I found. I'll try to 're-find' the pics...

My fiance and I totally have this problem LOL. In fact, it's a common occurrence in my life hehe. Like dress shopping, shoe shopping... umm any kind of shopping. XD I always have something in mind, and can't find any examples anywhere. Then I give up and go home without buying anything. >.>;

Anyway, I suppose if worse comes to worse, we'll just go with something like Mad Hatter 'cause at least that's somewhat interesting as far as cake designs go heh.
