I am seriously considering renting points from a DVC'er at OKW for a grand villa or a combo of studio/2 br villa. There will be two families - 12 of us total. It appears a lot less expensive than outright reserving them through CRO. However, the terms have me a little concerned...sending your money to a stranger who has control of your ressie and could possibly cancel and keep your money. Then, I'm not real sure of the cancellation requirements.

So I'm looking to hear anyone's experiences - good, bad or indifferent.

I am in the process of renting points for the second time around. The first experience was terrific. No problems whatsoever. So far, the second experience is going very well. I am sending in a deposit this week. If it makes you feel better maybe they can give you some references.

We are renting points for our next 2 trips (April and October). So far everything is going great! :) I think as long as the person gives you their home address, phone number, full name, etc.... then it's OK. As soon as they make the reservation call DVC and confirm it. Then you'll get a confirmation letter with your name and the DVC members name.

I think there is definitely a risk... but so far everything is going great with the 2 people I am renting points from. :)

Good Luck! :)

This May will be our third year renting points - we've never had any trouble. We work out the payment arrangments with the DVC owner - make our deposit - get the confirmation letter - pay the remainder and check in as normal. We have always had the points paid off at least 30 days before arrival - not sure if that was something dh worked out or dvc requirement - I do believe there is a 30 cancellation notice necessary though.

I would check the points board and see if there is someone with points available and go from there - most of the people there are familiar with the process and can walk you through it. Again its always worked out great for us and has been a great way to save big $$$ at deluxe resorts.

Just make sure that you don't try to get the HAFH at a busy holiday time without a year of planning in advance. The owners of the points can make their reservations 11 months in advance at their home resort, so if you want a busy holiday time, you may be out of luck. Or if you want a popular resort, you may also be out of luck. And GVs go very fast.

This December will be our first trip renting from DVCer. The whole transaction went smoothly. I was also concerned about sending money to a "stranger". However, I am renting from someone who has a very good rep and has been around the DIS for many thousands of posts. That made me feel very comfortable. I also saved a whole lot!

I hope to rent again for our June 2003 trip.

We are not DVC members, and enjoy staying at Disney's VERO Beach resort each summer as part of our WDW experience. We should have rented points long ago...and finally did this year! We will be staying at Vero w/points purchased through a wonderful person located on the DIS DVC board! We are saving a "bundle" over the actual cost we normally pay! We were so pleased with the ease of this transaction--and will do the same for next summer as well! We may even rent points to stay at Disneyland in Paris! :)

I am renting points for my BWV stay starting Sunday and it has gone well so far. Of course, I am now a DVC member myself, so I was able to call member services and make sure that the reservation hasn't been canceled, since I have the reservation number on my confirmation sheet.

I chose a DVC member who lived nearby and kept all emails and correspondence concerning the contract I made with him.

because of the DVC boards I don't think that anyone would easily get away with cheating a renter on this site - Doc would ban them from the boards - I have never heard of anyone being cheated here - now on the ebay that is different. make sure you read the FAQ on the DVC rental/trade board.

Last year, we rented points for the first time at boardwalk villas in a 1 bedroom. Everything went great!! The place was huge too! We are renting points again this year at the same place from a different member-only because the other member is saving her points to use-but so far so good. I paid a deposit to them, and have received my confirmation letter from them once they received it in the mail. What you work out with the other party regarding price and payment details is up to you. Usual price seems to be $10/point, but you can get a little lower if you rent a lot of them sometimes. On my payment, i am sending 25% down, and 25%every month to them. Depends how far in advance you do it as well. We are only 5 months out, and they a cancellation window as well in case you change your mind so they wont lose their points in case that happens. I have received their address and phone # as well in case of any problems. As long as they dont try to hide anything from you, there should be no problem. I havent heard of anyone on these boards have a problem, but you never know. So far so good though, Good Luck!!

We have just bought into the BCV and are going to have a lot more points than we need for the first couple of years. The reason we did that was because in the future we will have to go in prime time so that we won't have to take our children out of school. To make a long story short, with the help of the people on the DVC board we knew that we would be able to rent our points to people on the boards and not worry about losing them. I have read about the concerns of people who do rent, but as far as I know no one has ever been burnt by anyone on the boards.

I will only be listing my points on these boards because I feel a trust to the fellow Dis members that we are looking for the same thing "A piece of the Magic". I would make sure you get all the information on the Dvc member as you should make sure that they ask for all yours in return.

I am sort of in the same boat, because I worry about who I am renting to.

Good Luck
