Everyone on here, I think, knows that my Lady, Erica and I are a team. We do all our long races together and finish together. We draw strength from each other.

One of the many things we love about WISH is that it is a family forum. I was wondering who else on here is a team like Erica and I. Any other married couples, mother and daughter or father and son or visaversa. Please share?

Dave:hippie: "YARC"

I unfortunately am an Army of one. I am looking every weekend during these races for my second. I'll keep looking.:3dglasses

Well we will just have to help you screen the applicants to insure they are the proper level of "YARC". We certainly don't want you tied to a mate that would require you to be "Normal".

Seriously she is out there and when you meet it will be magic.

DD and I did the Minnie together...however she left me in her dust

DH and I have done 1 other race together and have 2 more planned 1 being the 1/2 marathon in Disney. We train together most of the time however, he is a runner and I am a walker so we don't finish together. In the 10K we did together, once he was finished he came back and walked the rest with me:love:. We are very new to this so hopefully I will be able to incorporate some jogging and we will be able to finish together also.

Erica and I are both walkers. I'm faster than her in the shorter races but in the longer ones she can hold her own. So our deal is anything over 5K we do together.

We train together on our 2 LSD days each week, she goes a little faster and I go a little slower, it works out well. It makes me have LSD and gives her a tempo day.

Linda and I do all our races together. We did the Goofy and Minnie Double together. I only do races for fun anymore so it is more fun having company all the time. We are planning for TOT and Goofy again. We train on weekends together but week days I am on my own. Linda doesn't train very much except for the Goofy.

DH and I run together as well--however training together is an issue due to the kiddos--so we trade off weekend mornings for LRs. We did Minnie together this year, and have ToT, the Akron Marathon, and WDW Marathon scheduled for this year!

Susan and I are a team. We train together but do our races separately due to the difference in our paces.

We do 2 days of speed/incline (we don't have real hills in our park LOL) where we are at our own paces but feel secure knowing the other is most likely around the bend.

Then Saturday was have our LSW where the distance is the only thing that matters. It's this day that you will hear threats coming from Susan that if I mention pace one more time she will beat me with my Garmin. :duck:

We motivate each other and if it wasn't for each other wouldn't be doing this. It's because we have commited to training with the other and knowing that if say I were to sleep in on Saturday and skip our LSW that she too would miss out. Therefore it's the pull of each other that gets us to the park even on days when we'd rather be sleeping or munching ice cream. When we get there we're always glad we did.

DH occasionaly fills in as a training buddy but recently I broke him. :rolleyes1 Apparently i need to walk/run nicely with my training buddies especially those who are not used to going out with me. He's going thru therapy for his knee now and we think he has either a tear or cartilidge but the Doctor is doing therapy first althought we figure he will need surgery :( So for now if Susan can't make a 4 miler DH is such a sport he will camp out at the park while I do it and since he can ride his bike would fill in for a 6 miler if need be.

I'm quite lucky in my Team because if I had to do it on my own i wouldn't.

I'm on my own. I could go and train with Team in Training group, and I might as we get closer to the marathon, but I kind of like running alone.

My wife won't attempt to go out with me even though I tried. She walks sometime, but only inside on the treadmill.

enjoy,
Duane

I'm a onesome. I've tried to get DD11 to try, no go. I've asked both DS's to start to train to do RFTT with me, but no go. I'm okay with it, I'm pretty self motivated. But it would be fun to have someone to train with in person.

DH and I trained for and ran botht the half and full together. It was wonderful but since then I have let him become his own runner because I am much slower than him and didn't think it was fair for him to always train/race at my pace. I gave up on running for awhile and now back at it--DH has been going strong and did another marathon without me (a full 1:30 mins faster that "our" marathon together).

It will be interesting going forward if I do bigger races--bring on the IPOD !

Kelly, Erica and I have different paces to but our time together is to precious not to do some of our training together. We compromise by doing our Long Slow Distance days together. As far as the races we do the long ones together, I'm not going to win anyway and it's a better memory if it's one we can share.

DH is my walking buddy. He is WAY FASTER than me. Well, OK, most people are way faster than me! Walking with him does help me push my pace some, but I have found we do better in races if I send him ahead at his own pace. I do some training by myself, too because I can get discouraged by how much faster than me he is. For some reason that actually slows me down but if I am by myself I just might push harder because I don't have to worrk about keeping up with him. Does that make sense to anyone but me? :confused3

DH and I are a marathon team. Because of schedules and 4 DDs, we never get to train together. He did the Goofy in January. He ran the 1/2 on his own, while I cheered with my WISH friends on Main Street. Then, he walked the full with me and was my Sherpa. He carried my water and all my stuff. By mile 19, I even gave him my Garmin so that I had nothing extra on my body. We were a great team, and he was a great motivator. I don't know that I would have finished without him. I kept telling him that if he needed to go ahead without me to finish within the official time he should because I did not want him to miss out on an official Goofy finish because of me, but he refused to go. We stayed together and finished in just under 7 hours. He was so proud of me for finishing a marathon he cried. It was one of the best moments in our 19 years together.

This year we are both signed up for the Goofy. We will split up for the 1/2 marathon again and then do the marathon together at my pace. I can't wait!:dance3:

Heather thank you for sharing that story. Sometimes people ask us why we do what we do, if they had a few moments like that they would know.

My DH is not a walker, infact he is anti-Disney:guilty: so I'll be walking the full alone. Starting in August I'll be training with TNT, so I'm sure to meet buddies there as well as my WISH bud's!;)

DH is finally starting to come around. He has been walking in the mornings and incorporating a bit of running. I think he and DD (7) are going to do a 1 mile fun run on the Fourth of July while I wait with DS (1) and then I will do the 5k. We haven't done any running together, but have walked a bunch more than we ever did.

DD sometimes goes with me, but is a bigger talker than a doer! She keeps saying she wants to do the ToT, but we'd sign up for the 6k due to her age. I certainly would love to do it with her if she means it, but the last 5k we did she was horrible towards the end (as in I had to drag her along thinking about how she'd be telling her therapist 30 years later about her evil mother). Now I'm torn-- assume she's all talk and just sign up for the 13k by myself, or sign up for the 6k and try to motivate her... we have been going to the beach on the weekends and she's easily walked 6-7 miles without complaint, so I know physically she could do it... ok, now I'm just rambling.

Oh, but the sherpa idea is fabulous! I'm just afraid I'll end up in the sherpa role.;)

Stephen and I are kind of a team. We run at the same time, usually the same area, and always do the same races; we just don't run together as we run at 2 different paces.

I primarily train by myself. DH is not able to run but will walk; he does not have desire to walk fast due to his surgeries he is grateful that he is doing anything. So, on the days during the week that he does not have to work he will go with me to the trail in times of good weather—of course it is fair weather partnering here. Those during the week trainings are for time not distance. We start out, I give him a hug and off I go. When I get to the half-way point in the time I call his cell and we both turn around. I boogie back and by the end of the route if I go fast enough we walk the last 5 minutes or so together. I so love him for doing this with me. It makes him feel like he is accomplishing something healthy under his terms and we are doing it together. We also try to manage XT in the same way if we are at the gym. Knowing we are there even if we are not doing the same exact thing/timing is meaningful to us. Our work schedules do not always allow for this, and it is considered precious time by us.
DSs when they were participating in the event (last year eldest DS#1—1st marathon, year previous DS#2—1st half marathon) they did try once or twice to go out with me. They just could not do it, said I was too slow and they couldn’t WALK that slowly. So, no training partners there. Having them both experience the event from the inside gave them a new respect for their Mama and they have proudly boasted that. They do not foresee another event in their near future, so I rely on WISH Team partnering support.

DH and I do all training and races, except MInne when he didn't come, together. I don't knwo that I coudl do a marathon w/o him. We know what the other needs and when. It's hard for me to push adn keep up with him, even when he thinks he's slow. It's hard ofr him to go slow enough for me sometimes too. When we finished our first marathon, though, it was all worthwhile. I have offered to let him go and see how fast he could do for shorter races, including CDC whre I could probably go with another WISHer, but he won't hear of it. We're a team.

The owener of our running store told us that we should try their trianing group. WHIle I'd love to let him go ahead and see how I am compared to others, I have my WISH team and I just can't give up my time with dh. It really is wonderful to work towards your goals together. (Please remind me of this the next time I want to shoot him post-workout. ;) )
