Who else has had the H1N1 vaccine? - update post 92 looks like my DD has the Flu.

So with all the talk about the vaccine I thought I would start a thread from people who have actually had it already to see what the effects are, good and bad.

Today at 2:30 myself, a mild Asthmatic, my DH and my 2 severely Asthmatic children, DS11 & DD10 got the H1N1vccine. I have to be honest, I can't help but wonder if it's too late anyway since it takes 2 weeks for immunity to set and the Flu is tearing through the region. Still, we did it, and I am hopeful. More troublesome for us is the fact that both of my kids are at the tail end of a flare-up so they both have been taking moderate levels of steroids for a while now. DS is on 2 ampules of .5 Pulmicort 2 times a day with Duoneb 2 times a day and DD has been on 4 puffs of Flovent 2 times a day with 2 puffs of Albuterol a day. I know there is research on whether or not Asthmatics need another dose of the vaccine to be safe but that no-one is sure just yet. I also know that second dose needs to be spaced 2 weeks behind the first. I can only pray that this is sorted out in the next 2 weeks but no matter what we're still going to be careful.

As for us, every one of us has been getting Seasonal Flu vaccines since my DD was born premature in 1999. WE all had the seasonal shots 2 weeks ago without incident. Today we all did take Motrin before the shot, just like we always do. So far all of us are perfectly fine.

I'll keep reporting back and would like to encourage other people to do the same to help other people relax their fears about the vaccine's safety.

A final word, I know many people are anti-vaccine. Please do not use this thread as a place to voice pretend reports of trouble. Many people who have high risk kids, like mine, depend on these vaccines to save their lives. The vaccine issue isn't always a mere matter of conscience for everyone. Please, think before you post ok. If you want to post your thoughts on the evils of vaccines then please open another thread. This is not the place for that ok, please be respectful of families like mine.

I got it last Monday. I'm pregnant. I'm also mildly asthmatic, but my main concern was my pregnancy. I'm in and out of 15 schools, 2 headstart centers, as well as my office, so I'm around a LOT of people, and it's really big in my schools right now. I've been staying in the office as much as possible, but Monday will put me at 2 weeks, and I read 8-14 days for immunity (not that it can be counted on to be 100% ever, but you know what I mean).

I have had no side effects or concerns from the vaccine-only relief at finding it and feeling like I'm not at risk just trying to do my job.

Hey, I'm glad you guys finally found vaccine. I know you've been worried about it.

We have appointments on Nov 11th; I'll come back and post then about how it goes.

and FWIW, I read again today, that people should not hesitate to get vaccine because they think H1N1 has peaked; the likelihood of a 3rd wave in spring is likely (although of course, no one has a crystal ball and anything could happen).

Me 37, DH 34, DD 3 all got our vaccines today at 130. No side effects. I am so relieved and thankful that our pediatrician had it in. I just had a baby and she is only a month old and I am breastfeeding and she will get some of the vaccine from me. It's such a weight off my shoulders. Me and my DD got the injection and DH got the mist. They asked him if he would mind getting the mist to save the injection for kids with other health problems. Hope this eases someone elses fears about it.

Thanks, OP, for starting this thread. I have never gotten a seasonal flu shot before. All the information surrounding the H1N1 vaccine has been giving me a headache. However, I am travelling to both Vegas and WDW in the next two months, which means exposure to millions of people from all over the world. This, coupled with the fact that I fall into the high-risk age group, settled it for me. I'm scheduled to get the shot this Saturday. I'll post my experience this weekend.

Let me preface this by saying we got the H1N1 FluMist...

Me...no reaction whatsoever other than an itchy nose (inside) for about 1 hr. DS2 got his at the same time...he had diarrhea for about 1/2 day, but then again, he is teething, so not sure if it is related or not.

I have received the seasonal flu shot but not the H1N1 yet. there is no where in our area that is offering it right now. At my checkup appt. on Monday by OBGYN told me to get the shot. Now to just wait and see if anyone is offering it. sigh...

My 8 year old son (asthmatic) received the shot last Wednesday. No ill effects. My 2 year old son and 5 year old daughter both got the Flumist last Friday. Again, no ill effects at all. My two little ones were also getting over a cold when they got the mist; since they had no fever and very little congestion they got the go-ahead for it. The only thing that worried me was that my littlest one moved his head as he got the first squeeze and it looked like some of the mist came back out. The nurse told me it was okay - that it happens all the time, so I'll just keep my fingers crossed until they get the 2nd dose. We leave for Disney on Friday - so I hope they'll have a little immunity by then!!

BTW my husband and I - both asthmatics - have not been able to find the shot for ourselves.

The swine flu is everywhere down here isn't it? My son has it right now, on day 3 and he's doing better. Motrin is controlling the fever and he has a cough but the terrible headache and muscle aches are gone now.

We did get the seasonal but I guess it's too late for the H1N1 I guess with him having it if we're going to get it we will. Oh well.

Had mine last Friday. I can't take the flumist, so I had the injection. I work in a nursing facility, and hoping to get more in. Right now we are out of both seasonal, and H1N1, and our pharmacy doesn't know if/when they can get us more.

I will join in....I got mine one week ago today...no problems so far (knock on wood)...I am a ICU nurse so they wanted to get us done but now they are out...they are expecting a new batch tomorrow...

Got my mist on Saturday. No problems at all! Still waiting to find it for my kids...each county is doing it differently, and my kids' doctor is in a county which hasn't released it to the doctors' offices yet. Ironically, it is the same county where I got mine because I am a health care provider. My own county did not consider me a high risk health care provider because we see well children where I work. Whatever, I'm just glad we got one down and at least 2 more to go...hubby is willing to wait because of his age and he is healthy.

FYI not quite on topic but while I'm talking about H1N1, to all the parents of Asthmatics out there. One of the hardest things I have been trying to deal with is how to keep my kids' hands clean when they are away from me. Asthmatics pose an unusual problem in that they often can't tolerate all the fragrance in most hand sanitizers. I was really lucky and discovered that the Germ-X soft wipe singles do not contain any noticeable fragrance, so I tape one wipe to my kids sandwich each day to use right before eating. While it does say it contains fragrance, I can't smell it any my kids can't smell it. Other non fragrant finds are, the cheap gel hand sanitizer made by Assured at the Dollar Store. For my home, I like the pop up alcohol wipes called "Sani-Hands" made by Nice-Pak Products. Oh, and there is a fragrance free non alcohol based foam called "Hands 2 Go" made with Benzalkonium chloride, but I'm not positive this stuff kills the Flu so I keep it in the cars and as a second choice or in between hand washings.

Keep in mind this stuff is hard on the hands so use it sparingly.

Enough of that, back to talking about people who have had the vaccine. I am really relieved to hear from those of you who had it a week or so ago and that you are doing ok. My fingers are crossed. Please keep the stories coming, they lighten my heavy heart.

Youngest, asthmatic, son got the H1N1 shots ( first 5 weeks ago, second 3 weeks ago....approx...) - no side effects noted.

Older son got flu mist one week ago tomorrow, no noticable side effects.

Asthmatic self got shot one week ago tomorrow, no effects.

Now, if only DH could get it (having asthmatics in the family does not qalify him as 'priority' here...) - he works with a 'high risk' population (inmates) so hopefully, he can get it eventually....

I'm just curious for the adults that got it....are you all health care workers?

We've had constant correspondence that we are NOT to give it to adults unless they are 1.) pregnant 2.) a health care worker 3.) the primary caretaker of an infant under 6 months.

The reasoning behind this was so that there was enough to immunize children (the hardest hit population first), and then adults that were in the constant exposure to it.

I'm glad people are able to access it, but I'm a little frustrated that some areas cannot get any doses for the priority populations while other areas seem to have enough they don't have to follow the protocol.

I'm a healthcare worker. We have almost 100 employee's, and only about 10 were elg. to get the mist. We CANNOT get the shot in stock, yet we are seeing dozens of positive flu patients daily. This is really frustrating.

We have had 1 shipment of the mist, it's holding out but I think that is mostly because we have a high asthma population who were not eligible to get it.

We've had several young children have to leave our office by ambulance this week due to H1N1, it is very upsetting. I just don't understand how the immunization is being distributed in such a manner that some areas have so much and others cannot get it.

glad to hear no one has any ill effects from the vaccine. We are opting to not get it for our kids. NYC schools start vaccinating this week. Ive gone back and forth in the decision to not get the H1N1 vaccine, it's really making me nuts second guessing everything. Im glad some of the high risk disers were able to get the shot.

DD was able to get the mist today and said it tasted so bad that she wanted to go back to getting the shots. I told her to be grateful for what she could get.

My doctor got in 20, yep, 20 shots today. That's for his entire practice. He prioritized the list and I'm getting one of the precious 20 tomorrow due to my asthma. DH is out of luck.

If only we were convicts, we'd have a better chance.

I'm still trying to get info on whether asthmatics might need TWO of the H1N1 vaccines and how far apart. A study completed in June 2010 is of no use to me.
