Who else forgot the quarters?

Did anyone else forget to put quarters in the door ways and on the windows last night? We has just finished watching the ball drop and my DH said, "oh, you forgot to do the quarters"! Aaarggghh, I hate when I do that! My Mom forgot to do it also. Any one else forget?

I don't know how it started, I just remember my Grandma doing it when I was little and my Mom always doing it. It is supposed to bring you good fortune.

About New Year's Traditions
Naples is famous for throwing their old furniture and other items out the windows so they can buy new ones. (This reminds me of the last days of college in the dorms, senior year, who thought it actually derived from the Napoletani?). One of the traditions that my mother still insists on is taking new coins (the current year obviously); penny, nickel, dime, quarter, half dollar and dollar coin, facing up, putting them on the window sill BEFORE midnight to bring good luck as we pass from the old year to the new.

I am from NE PA and from what I remember (I do not do it) is that you put bread and money in tin foil and put on windowsills.

It means you will always have food and money.

Since I imagine I will need much more than some moldy bread and change, I do not participate. I think it is an old wives tale or something.
