Who books a cruise because it's a Star Wars or Marvel day at sea?

My whole family is nuts for Star Wars...this will be our third SWDAS cruise on the Fantasy this coming Feb 8th. I like the seven day cruises in Jan/Feb, and since they're all SW, woo!

Plus, it's only one day. So even if you don't care or even don't like the franchise, you can avoid it (or just deal with it) for the most part on the one day that everything is happening.
In theory, yes. But, because the cruise itself is marketed and a themed cruise, you're going to run into people who dress up for it during the whole cruise.

Your experiences may be different, but we have not observed this in three MDAS cruises. Lots of Marvel t-shirts on the other days, but not any different that you might see in the parks. The only day anyone was in a costume was on the MDAS day itself.

We booked our cruise last year because of SWDAS. My son loves fighting with light sabers and I knew he would enjoy Jedi training. But it had also been several years since we had cruised and I had been wanting to do another cruise anyway. We really enjoyed the theme day and would consider another themed cruise in the future.

We did a SWDAS a few years ago, but it was just happenstance that it was on the cruise we decided to book. Kind of a bonus, really, we felt, because it sounded like a lot of fun and it was. After that, I did try to deliberately book a Marvel day at sea because we enjoyed SWDAS so much, but the dates never worked out for us.

New to the Disney forums. We specifically have booked a Marvel Day at Sea cruise for March because of the interests/ages of my kids. They are 11-16 :) We are super excited as this is our first Disney Cruise!!

well star wars and marvel are two very popular (and profitable) franchises. They fill ships during the slow season with people who are cruising for that extra bonus. To me it's the best of all worlds but it was definitely a bucket list item for me to do for my son.
Slow season....that makes sense.

We look for best bang for the buck. It it happens to be a themed cruise that's an added bonus. We've done 3 Halloween (not intentionally) and are going on our first Marvel Day at sea this month.

We are not Disney people. My partner and I grew up in the 70s and our memory of Disney was snowy black and white retreads on Sunday nights, 20 year old reruns of Mouse Club, and mostly forgettable live action movies. We've gotten to see more of Disney and enjoy things, particularly the modern movies, but we just didn't imprint as kids. Our daughter, on the other hand, has been Disney obsessed since Frozen came out when she was 4 and really really wanted to do a Disney cruise. When we finally pulled the trigger on a cruise, one of the big things that pushed us towards going for such a big expense was that we got to have Star Wars day so there was something for us. We've turned into big fans of the cruise line overall, but for us SWDAS was really instrumental in getting us over the sticker shock.

We have to book cruises that fit into our work and school schedule so we get what we get.

I haven't been on a cruise yet (I have my first upcoming in 2021). The only theme that played into my decision was the Tangled theming, so I chose the Magic. I love Marvel & Star Wars but those days at sea sound exhausting if you want to take in the full experience of the respective themes.

For me the days at sea (opted for a trip with 2 days at sea & only two ports of call, including Castaway Cay) are going to be about exploring & enjoying the ship. That could change if I have future trips, but for now the Marvel & Star Wars will probably have little impact on my decision

We booked MDAS cruise after watching Endgame in theaters last year. My sister & I are big MCU fans..we may as well knock it off the list plus it's a nice getaway trip. we do like themed cruises since it's just 1 day for the theme..i've read there are other neat things to do aside from character M&G these dates, sometimes there are comic book artists panels and special themed shows.

As I expected, my 2021 cruise is now Marvel Day at Sea. I'm ok with this - especially since i figured it would happen and booked with that figuring - not because of MDAS but more in spite of it since I'm restricted by school vacations and i wanted a Disney cruise again.

Did you get an email telling you? I looked at Disney's website and didn't see anything. I changed our Jan 2021 Fantasy cruise to late March Fantasy cruise. I just want to make sure DCL isn't switching things up for 2021 and doing SW at end of March. Sorry your's is Marvel, I know you don't care for them(neither do I). At least you were expecting it, have a great cruise.

I saw it on the DCL Blog. Nothing about SWDAS that I can find. Yeah - I’m a DC girl, but I am learning to tolerate Marvel. Fingers crossed for you!!

I definitely booked our MDAS cruise last March due to the theming. At that point it was our 11th Disney Cruise so it was nice to do something different. I would really love to do a SWDAS cruise, but they are weeklong cruise in Jan and Feb when my kids are in school (my younger son has most of March off, so the MDAS was perfect). If they had any SWDAS in March I would do them!!

We booked pretty much because of the SWDAS. We had a different sailing booked, and moved it (only a little over a week away) because that was the week after the SWDAS cruises ended - which also turned out to be a potential work conflict.

I booked specifically for Star Wars. But I booked it for an internary I wanted.
