I am in the process of trying to make sure we can fit everything into our October trip that we can to make sure my DS and nephew have the time of their lives, as it is their first trip to Florida.
We probably won't be doing too many Disney meals - the only definate is Crystal Palace breakfast - but we would like to do an evening meal.
DS has said she would like to do Whispering Canyon, this is based on videos and pics that we have taken on the 2 occassions we have been there. I'm not against going there as I think the food is good - especially the skillet - but I thought the atmosphere was missing something last time we went.
I have read good things about Boma and would like to try that but would feel terrible if it didn't match what my DS expectations are of WC (does all that make sense??)
So I suppose my question is what are the differences between the 2 and, if pushed, what would you choose?
There will be 8 of us in the group - 5 adults and 3 children (14,11,and 5)
Am I looking at the 2 best options here - or is there something that may be more suitable?

Both are nice. My son was uncomfortable with the antics at WC (although from what I've read these have been toned down a lot since we went) but he really liked the food here. I enjoyed wandering around WL after the meal.

Boma was a good choice too as it was a buffet. I particularly like it because it had some different choices (although the kids mostly ate from the nuggets and chips station). Once again we enjoyed exploring the hotel after our meal.

I think you'll have a good time whichever you choose. If you've already given DS the choice I'd honour his decision - otherwise I'd go for Boma.

Why don't you check on allears.net, where there are dining reviews/photos/menus etc

I haven't been to either but wouldn't fancy all the yeehaw shenanighans at Whispering Canyon to be honest.

As we are strongly considering a Polynesian stay next year (hopefully not cancelling it this time ) you could consider Ohana as an alternative, also gives you a chance to look around Grand Floridian and Bay Lake Towers perhaps too.

Overall I would let your DS choose ultimately.

Sorry to cause any confusion :rolleyes1 - by DS I meant my sister (not that this has any bearing on anything - just thought I'd mention it).

Just adding that there was a lot of CM interaction at WC but at Boma we were very much left to ourselves (obviously the waitress was friendly and got our drinks, explained how the buffet worked etc. but she was mostly in the background).

At WC there is much interaction with the CM with guests being the target of humour, all very good natured. The CM will often address the whole restaurant in respect of your bahaviour. Those celebrating birthdays usually get special treatment! For us the food quality was nothing speacial. If you are the quiet retiring sort or wanting something romantic then stay well away!

Boma very different, guests are left to themselves with no CM interaction other than the usual waiting service. Unlike WC the food is buffet style with a very large choice of good quality food. Boma is one is one my favs. The restaurant does tend to be noisey.

This is what it was like for us last October but at Whispering Canyon, we were expecting the tomato sauce joke etc and all we got was absolutely nothing-the waiter was so slow and we had no interaction at all just sat there and ate the meal..

If she likes what she sees of WC I would go with that.
Not been there yet, booked for August but been to Boma twice. 1st time last August I loved it, DW & DS not impressed, really just ate pasta & meatballs and desserts. Went back again at Xmas and I didn't enjoy half as much(probably ate too much for lunch at Beaches and Cream:)), so not going back again this year.
Boma is just a buffet with slightly alternative food, CM's clear the tables and bring drinks, usually while at buffet so hardly any interaction with them.
Eaten 3 times at Trails end which is cheapest onsite buffet and all of us enjoyed every meal there, I can just live on their ribs and peel and eat shrimp. CM always been a lot more attentive there and chatty.
Better option, try both then you know.:goodvibes

When we last went to WC they had really toned down the CM interaction. We had been before and had been the butt of all sorts of comments (very loud ones) and jokes - as had other tables - but when we noticed the difference we asked a CM about it.
Apparently there had been a lot of complaints from people taking offence to some of the comments and attention so they had been told to tone it all down.
A great shame in my opinion as it took a lot away from the atmosphere - but the food is still good all the same.
I think I will do what people suggest and if she wants to go there than that will be that.

Thanks Guys:thumbsup2

Hiya

We love Boma, I love the atmosphere of AKL and the food is full of different choices and new items to try and you can go for a stroll around the hotel and Savanah after which is lovely on a warm evening.

We are also going to try WC for the first time on this trip, I haven't told DH or the kids anything about it, so I'm hoping they'll be in for a surprise with some CM interaction ha ha ha ha.

We've been to Boma once and Whispering Canyon about 3 times now. I'd still go back to WC, I really like the food there. Food at Boma was really great too, nothing wrong with anything there, but I prefer the atmosphere at WC.

I will back this one up as I was with Netty, and to be fair I am a real Disneyfreak and really dont like critisising the company (sad I know) but I felt it was a real waste of money and we only went there for the interaction really. I for one would never venture there again.

If you can only choose one, then do Boma's if you've never been.

If it were me, I'd do both. Last year we ate at both and would definately eat at both again.

We had lots of interaction with Hickory, ask for her when you get seated at WC.

My DH drank his coke really quickly and suddenly she appeared with this huge one and made a few comments.

We had a late lunch around 2.00 and there were only a few diners there then.
