Whispering Canyon for Adults --good food?

this seems to be a restaurant for families with kids...how's the food for just 2 adults and is it really loud?

My BF and I went in September. We're two adults, no kids. We were sat at a really nice table in front of the fire place, towards the back. Our ADR was at 8:10 but the place was still full, so we may have just lucked out with our table. It wasn't terribly loud, but it wasn't a quiet romantic place either. There was a large party with kids across from us, and the servers did the whole yelling for ketchup thing, and they did the pony rides. But we didn't find ourselves getting irritated and we could still hold a conversation.

We thought the food was good. We are not foodies though - we are both the meat and potatoes type. My BF got the skillet which he loved and I got some chicken pasta dish which I didn't like much, but everything else I ate was good. I thought the pasta dish was too garlicy but others may like it that way. The bottomless milkshakes were good too - they were the thick kind like McDonalds.

If anything, it's a great way to see WL. Because of our trip to WCC, we've decided to stay at WL next year

I agree with PP. We (2 adults no kids) last year. We were seated in a room a small room in the back, it was quieter sitting back there but you were still closeby to the hustle and bustle of the restaurant. The food was good, to me it's similar to Famous Dave's- if you have that restaurant where you live. We also loved seeing WL. I think it was definitely worth it to go at least once, not sure if we'll go back but I enjoyed the experience.

this seems to be a restaurant for families with kidsabsolutely a family place with an emphasis on the kids...how's the food for just 2 adultsmeh. Wasn't terrible, but I was disappointed with the quality. My skillet was SO greasy... and is it really loud? As I said: emphasis is on the kids, so yes, the main room where we were seated can be very noisy.

But then again I have a low tolerance for screaming, excited kids in a dining room. It just wasn't a good fit for us.

If one or both of you is vegetarian, there's only one vegetarian option on the menu. Ditto Artist's Point.

2 adults......have eaten there at least 5 times. Sat at various places around the restaurant.
Always a lot of fun.....some servers better than others.
We got lots of special treatment.

It's one of a small number of WDW restaurants on my list of not going to again. Done it twice, both times the food was mediocre and it's just too noisy and chaotic. I don't mind noise, love Hoop de Doo, but WCC is just not our style for food or atmosphere.

We just went there for our first time on Christmas Day-just my DH & me. We were staying at the WL at thetime. We actually saw alot of large groups of adults.

The waiter was funny and their antics were fun, but the food was nasty We made the mistake of getting the skillet and the eggs tasted powdered, meats were cheaply made, potatoes were cold. The Mickey waffles were fantastic, but did not make up for the rest of the meal. I wish we had gone with a regular entree-maybe it would have been better quality because it's not as cooked for the masses as the skillet.

Anyways, I would go there again without kids-I just would not get the skillet again.

We go there every trip. I think many restaurants are good if you order some menu items & bad if you order others. I think that is why some folks give bad reports & others good reports. So, DH & I give good reviews to the dinner skillet, but only some items in the skillet.

On our first visit, we thought the skillet brisket was terrible. We also aren't big on barbq chicken. We wanted the skillet for the ribs & the pulled pork.

So after the 1st trip, we only ordered the ribs & pulled pork for our skillet & those meats have always been very good - tender, good seasonings, liked the sauce (we always ask for extra sauce on side); it's a sweet sauce, not vinegar.

We also only order a couple of sides rather than all of them (however, all of the sides were good). We order the corn on the cob & it is very good - tender & you get butter for it (ask for as much as you want). We order the cole slaw; not creamy type, but not real vinegary (what a word!). And we order the cornbread - moist, good flavor, & a sweet cakey cornbread - again you get as much butter as you want; never asked for it but can probably get honey or jam.

We order a bottomless shake & we like those (although we can only drink one serving). If one can drink a 2nd one, it can be a different flavor than the 1st one, if desired. Or, you can ask for 1/2 glasses & try several flavors.

If we are on the DDP, we take-out a dessert, but haven't found any that we like. We think the desserts are awful. The cheesecake is about the only one we eat & do so for breakfast the next day. It's not a great cheesecake, but it's a small piece & enough to get us started for the day & it's a free breakfast!

We always ask for a table in the back room (it's quiet there) & we always get it. However, we always have reservations for when WCC opens.

Can't vouch for any other menu items.

It's loud and the "antics" border on the obnoxious. We went just once and never again.
The sound of the beating of the wooden serving carts on the floor still rings in my ears after all these years--

Just wanted to add that when we were there as two adults, we didn't get hardly any of the antics. I think our server could read we weren't into it. I know she did the antics too because she did it with the table with kids across from us. So if you're worried about that like I was at first, don't be. I think the servers can tell when to be restrained on that.

Also wanted to add that when my BF got the skillet, it was not covered in sauce like I expected. He said it tasted like there was a dry rub on it. Just not what I was expecting, but he thought it was good no less.

I'm on the DxDP and thinking that (and an appetizer) may be a better choice than the skillet?

Anyone care to opine on this?

eh. The food's been OK. I used to really like it for lunch but not recently. Now I only go if I'm with someone else who chooses it.

Years ago they sold their own BBQ sauce in bottles in several varieties, but they haven't had anything like that in a very long time.

My dh has asked not to return there again.

He didnt feel well after eating there and we both were not impressed with the food, comparing this to Texas BBQ.

Very noisy atmosphere too.

DH and I have eaten there on adults only trips. The NY strip is OK, but not as good as the Ribeye they had three years ago. It was almost better than my filet at Cali Grill that year. The last couple of times they have seated us in the "adult" section in the back which is fine. The service is very pleasant and I think if you know what the restaurant is all about the antics are nice. We always do a the 5:00 p.m. time and get seated right away, then take the boat over to MK for fireworks. So the last 2-3 times we have been seated in the back, our first time we were in the middle of the action.

On our trip this past Dec..it was pretty good. We split the skillet amongst the four of us--there are things that you will really like and others you won't--barbeque is a personal flavor thing to me--so people's opions will very. The milkshakes are second only to 50's Prime time in my book.

I think when the servers see "2 adults, no kids", they help you out.

It is worth it just to see the lobby at WL. If you get there early stop by the check in desk and they can give you a list of Hidden Mickeys to look for around the lobby. Have fun.

We were on DxDP when we ate there. You can get an appetizer with the skillet too. My BF got the Western Chips, the skillet, and the s'mores for dessert. Plus a milkshake as a drink. SO much food! It's really a good value on the dining plan considering the cost and amount of food that comes with the skillet.

We have eaten there twice as "2 adults" and we won't be back--unless I'm bringing the grandkids. The skillet was too greasy for us (and we are not health food people) and the fish dish was just okay. The constant hyping up of the surrounding kids to yell and run around just annoyed us. Maybe if I had a big noisy group I would go there as I would suspect it wouldn't bother others. But I wont be back for the food and certainly not as a couple.

Ohmigosh, I ate there with my kids a few years ago and I would really pity any party that went there without kids and had to put up with the chaos. We were in the middle of everything, the place was packed, the food was forgettable. We eat there because we have kids... if it was just the two of us, we'd probably be looking at Artist's Point.

Reminder - the noise is not an issue if you request to be seated in the back & separate room. We didn't even hear any noise back there & we have never seen the back room full. Just ask for it, like we do.

Also, the ribs & pulled pork in our skillet were not served with BarBQ sauce on them. So if you don't like sauce, no problem. We asked for sauce on the side to add as we wanted.

Keep in mind that the servers & kitchen folks are very receptive to pleasing you - more so than some Disney food spots. So, if the meat is too greasy, too tough, whatever - ask for a replacement.

Also keep in mind that in many restaurants, this one included, many menu items are not any good, while some items are very good - it depends what is ordered.

I haven't been for a long time, but I think much of the same skillet items are offered at the Trail's End in Ft. Wilderness on the dinner buffet. It is very quiet in that restaurant, the food is good, there's more variety than just getting the skillet, the area is nice for a walk-around, & a short boat ride to the Magic Kingdom.

I just told my waiter - and he had the chef talk to my DH and me - - and he made something off the menu - - and it was yummy. We were staying at WL and ate a lot there. The waiter saw us the next day and just went and got the chef. By the end of the week, I was spoiled. We did tip quite well - but as the service was wonderful, it was the right thing to do.
