Hmmm...have been reading all the posts about Whispering Canyon Cafe at the Wilderness Lodge and now wondering if we should make a PS to eat there on our first night. The thing is, we arrive at MCO at 5:30pm, pick up rental car and are staying at Winsdor Palms.

Do you think this is do-able? What time should I try to get a PS?

Also, do we need a park pass to get in?

Thanks:wave2:

I can answer one portion of your question: No, you do not need a park pass to get into Wilderness Lodge.

Sorry I can't help you with the other part. We always drive, so I have no idea how long it will take you from the airport (+baggage claim+rental car pick-up+stop at the hotel). Anyone have any ideas?

I'd go ahead and book a PS anyway... say 7:30'ish.. Having a PS but arriving late is better than not having a PS at all. They'll understand.

I don't think I'd try to make a PS any earlier than 7:00, if you are landing at 5:30. I'd actually feel more comfortable with it being at 7:30. You're going to have to wait for your luggage, then possibly have to wait for your rental car, find your way from the airport to WDW (are you familiar with the roads?), check into your hotel, park your car, have luggage brought to your room, and probably want to freshen up. Then trek back down to where your car is parked, pile in, and find your way to WL. :)

If you arrive at 5:30, it will take anywhere from 30 min- 1 hour to get your luggage and rental car!...from there, it will take 30 minutes to get to your hotel. Then you need to check-in etc. and head over to WL! I would play it even safer and make a PS for 8:00PM!

We're thinking of trying the same thing. We arrive at 5:30 on a Friday and was thinking of a 7:30 PS that night. We do have the advantage of staying at the WL though.

Thinking on doing the same thing; but for lunch. Flight arrives at 11:30 and staying at the POP. Thinking a PS around 2:30

Definitely make it at a later time and ... Have a back-up plan !
If you get delayed or have problems enroute (lost luggage, etc.) have a back-up idea for the tired, hungry crowd. And, don't do anything that first day/night that requires a "ticket" or prepayment -- ya just never know when traveling what's gonna happen.
