Whispering Canyon Cafe Question

I am getting worried about this restaurant. It seems like a lot of people don't like the food there. I know I will like the skillet even if it isn't the highest of quality and the milkshakes....but I'm worried about my girlfriend. She would be getting the Maple-glazed trout and I am worried she will be disappointed based on a lot of negative feedback I've heard on the board here. Anyone have the trout or know if its good and tasty?

Thanks! :goodvibes

Don't be afraid! I have always found the food at WCC to be very decent. I think many not-so-raving reviews of this place are because there are so many outrageously wonderful restaurants on-property, and WCC might be considered average in that regard. If you are wanting to rethink your dinner ressie, you might want to try Artist Point (just steps away from WCC inside WL). Their specialty is cedar-plank roasted salmon, and if your girlfriend likes fish, she will love this dish. Whatever you decide, just remember that if you are unhappy with anything at Disney, let a CM know and they will do everything they can to make it right and enjoyable for you. Have fun!!!

I didn't know trout was available at WCC. Mostly WCC is western fare (beef, pork, corn, green beans, etc.) served family-style, in a boisterous environment.

If you're looking for some awesome trout, walk 100 feet down the lobby to Artist Point. Now that's some tasty trout.

We've been to Artist Point and yeah it was awesome! But this place is a bit cheaper and she's never been here....she liked the flavor of the fish at Artist Point and was hoping for a similar flavor here...

I'm so confused too. I thought Whispering Canyon would be a great dinner on our first night. The kids are 7,6 & 4 so I thought it would keep their attention. After reading so many negative reviews I thought Chef Mickey's would be better for us. I was just really trying to fit some BBQ Ribs into our dining plan for my Dad. He is going with us and I thought he might like it. I just don't want to start out our vacation on a bad note. Oh what to do!!???!!

Don't get me wrong. WCC is a terrific place, with some really good food (in my opinion). But it is definitely geared toward serving western fare, rather than fish or seafood. They might well serve trout at WCC for all I know. It's just not their specialty, like fish is at Artist Point.

We love both these restaurants, as well as WL itself.

I've been there twice, had the skillet and family members had "off the menu" stuff - we al enjoyed it immensely! Very good food, even for Disney standards! I have never seen trout on the menu though...

Allears has it on the dinner menu so hopefully they have it when we go too...

I think you just have to go and create your own opinion. Everyone has different tastes. We as a family like it, it is not our favorite place but we do enjoy it. My dad likes their ribs but for ribs his first choice is the Hoop Dee Doo. But, go and make your own decision. You could love it or hate it but I don't think anyone on these boards can decide for you. You can listen to opinions as I have but have found out many times they were wrong. And nothing against them... just that my taste is different. If you dont like it then you will know next time to not go there. Just my 2 cents!

I had tried to book WCC and they were booked. The CM suggested to me Trail's End so I booked that one. I read they have excellent fried chicken, ribs, etc...it is a buffet so maybe if you want more selection go with the other place.

We were just there last week and thought the food was good. It was not outstanding but definately good. I thought the pulled pork, corn on the cob and mashed potatoes were outstanding!! DH had a chocolate milkshake and he said it was okay but could have had more flavor. They were almost out of them when he ordered it so maybe that the reason it didn't have much flavor.

We found the food at WCC as good as any other Disney location. You can order from the menu if you do not wish to get the skillet. I have not had the trout but did have the roasted chicken with vegetables. Very good and the cornbread is delicious.

We've eaten at both WCC and CM and would much rather eat at WCC. We don't find the food to be great at Chef Mickeys. I think you and your children will really enjoy WCC

Dang that trout sounds good, and so does the salmon and beet salad for lunch. I think it's time to head over to Whispering Canyon for at least one meal this week!

WCC is good. You have to keep in mind there are so many different opinions on here. You have to go for yourself and see. For us it's good food & fun.

If you DO head over this week....please review the trout if you eat it :thumbsup2

RUN, RUN from WCC. This and Hollywood and Vine are the only two restaurants at Disney that we will never go to again. The food not good. The first skillet was cold and rubbery, and the second, while warm, was not much better. The major issue we had was the HORRENDOUS service! We waited OVER and HOUR before receiving food. It wasn't until I pitched a fit and got the manager did we get anything to eat. Just to make it worse, we had a 7 and 4 year old with us. It was so, so bad that the manager ended up not taking our dining credits for the meal. Never, ever, ever will we dine there again.
