While dining in Disney do you complain or send food back when it's unacceptable?

Just to be clear because I was one that said I sent something back because I did not like it... I offered to PAY for the other entree because I was doing it due to MY decision. I never once asked for the entree I didn't like to be taken off the bill. The server made that decision themselves.

However, I wasn't about to waste money and eat NOTHING at Jiko because I made a bad decision.

Yes, I think you did the right thing. I saw that you offered to pay for your new entree. That the restaurant chose not to bill you for both is wonderful customer service and I think that is great.
But I don't believe we have a "right" to expect that, or that we should feel the restaurant "Owes" us that type of service.
Glad you enjoyed Jiko

I don't expect it or consider that the restaurant "owes" me the service. I usually just let them know what I didn't like and ask nicely if I can have it replaced. If they say "no", that's OK. If they say "yes" then they've just made my whole experience so much better.

Like a PP said, I could work out of the place saying the food was "blah" or I could walk out of there saying the food was "amazing". If the restaurant CAN do something to influence that, then I give them the chance to do so.

I figure there's nothing wrong with my asking. And my personal line in the sand is that it's OK not to be wowed and I won't return stuff if it's fine. If I don't like it, that's when I would ask. If they say "no", then oh well - we either suck it up and eat it or we don't and get something else elsewhere.

I have to say, I do the same with haircuts. And GOOD hairstylists will encourage you to come back to fix something if you go home and are not entirely satisfied. I've done that with my fave stylist and she was happy to accommodate me.

Yes. If we get food that has a problem we will send it back, just like any non-Disney restaurant. That being said I can think of only one time that we have sent back food at a TS location. It was for a steak at Kona that was inedible-it was so tough. The server was great about it and brought my DM another choice for her entree.

After reading the "Best and Worst Dining Experience" thread and reading 2 of the posters refer to food as "gross" it got me wondering if people complain to management when they receive a bad meal at Disney?

I'll admit to not speaking up like I do in the real world but considering how expensive dining is in Disney and how we all value our time in the parks, I'm surprised at how many people seem to just accept the bad food and 2 1/2 hour dining experiences. One person said they got up from their table and "bought" a coke from the bar of a restaurant after not being able to find their server! Why on earth would someone do that? They didn't say if they complained and got reimbursed so I assume not.

If a server put "gross" food in front of me, or anyone in my family I was paying for, they would be taking it back...even if that meant I had to go find them. And find them I would :thumbsup2

Don't get me wrong, I'm not an aggressive person and avoid conflict whenever possible but find as I get older that I have no patience for bad service... or for being ripped off!

I've only had one meal in Disney that was so bad as to be inedible and that was last year at Ohana's.

I wrote a report here about it if anyone wants to hear the gory details

But I must say the manager at Ohana's that night was superb. They refunded the price of our meal.

Interesting replies.... Someone once gave me the advice if I have to send something back - and it's due to their error and not my own choosing as many have posted.... think twice if you really want something else brought to you.....

They went on to say ....ask for it to be taken back, removed from the bill, and do not order anything else from the menu.....and at all times be gracious and respectful for the sake of everyone else at the table.

I've headed this advice on a few occasions, but never had a need at WDW - always had positive experiences. In talking to people in the food service industry about this, I'm told it is very sound advice - and been told many stories as to why......

Having worked in one of the Disney restaurants I can tell you that I've had food sent back for any number of different reasons: taste, temperature, something looked strange, changed mind, etc. It really doesn't matter why you're sending it back, generally speaking it is Disney's policy to make sure you are pleased with your meal, so it really comes down to the guest's prerogative. I've had someone start eating the buffet and then decide they really don't want it and instead ordered off the menu (I removed the buffet from their order).

Just some examples, anyway :)

It's funny - my DH & I were just talking about this yest. regarding our last trip there. We were starving so decided at Epcot to duck into the Electric Umbrella about 3pm. We both got burgers and fries and the burgers were so dry and tough but we plowed through and ate them. I believe that is the only time we have had a meal there CS or TS that was that bad. We didn't say anything (should have, obviously sitting under heat lamp) but both agreed later that we will NEVER eat that kind of food again because neither of us are picky eaters and it was terrible. We laughed because we were SO hungry, couldn't even stop eating long enough to say anything :lmao:
