Which water park is better?

Tl for me! I much prefer the tropical theme over the winter theme. I LOVE the wave pool. BB only has bobbing waves and a much smaller pool area. TL has a shark reef to snorkel across (not a big deal for me as I snorkel a lot in the ocean). It is a good introduction to snorkelers. The slides are much better at BB however and there is a mini golf nearby. We use the water parks as a rest day. Sleep in a bit, then water park, to bed early.

Thanks! I tend to agree- the winter thing seems odd. Are you able to find lounge chairs pretty easily? I don't want to spend the cash on a cabana. We prob won't get there early either. Thoughts? Thanks!

I definitely agree that TL is way better that BB. As for finding lounge chairs pretty easily, it depends on a) what time of day you arrive, b) what time of year you are there.

It's probably best if you got there as near to opening time as possible, nab your loungers early by leaving a towel on them (before you even get changed into swimming gear) and then you have somewhere to relax for as long as you need it.

Hope this helps.

only 5 days till WDW!!!!!

TL has 3 real headliner attractions I'd rate A+, but most of the rest of the park I'd rate a C; family raft ride and their tube slides get an F.

BB has LOTS of great attractions, but really nothing you can't experience at any other water park in the US. Overall, the better park IMO, but call their best rides a B+, but BB's worst" rides are still a C.

See my review for more details.

My kids loved the winter theme of BB! And the music that played along with it and the chair lift (honestly only get one trip on it, line gets long). When they were younger, that was the favorite water park - body slide racers and family raft ride are great! And their "kid area" is a lot better than TL. Now that they're older teens, TL is their choice. The tropical theme is great and they love Crush n Gusher. We view it as sort of a "rest day" in a way. We do get there relatively early and bring our own towels and a bag and set them on chairs somewhat near Wave Pool (Holy cow that is a CRAZY wave pool!) and then we ride some slides and stroll around and hang at the chairs. Usually done just after lunch time. Good luck and I'm sure you'll really love either park :goodvibes

If you love to ride lots of slides when you go to a water park: Blizzard Beach

If you prefer a more relaxing beach day with less slides, a huge wave, and snorkeling: Typhoon Lagoon

I agree, my family really likes TL over BB. My kids would spend all day in the wave pool if we would let them :goodvibes and DH and I love the tropical feel of the whole park (BB seems too concrete for us, maybe it has to do with the snow theme). On our upcoming trip we are going to TL twice.

My family prefers TL... I feel like there is so much more walking at BB... things seems more spread out, and you have to walk further to get to things... and the stairs...stairs.....stairs.... ...did I mention the stairs??:faint:

..to be fair.. I have a hairline fracture on my right foot that is slowly healing so maybe its not so bad....:)

Kind of like apples/oranges. BB has more thrilling rides and chair lift, but lines can get long at times. At TL you have more of a chance of some rides with shorter lines, so you can spend less time in line. TL wave pool is awesome! (watch out for scratchy floor, must be a safety issue). The snorkeling at TL is fun too, although pretty small - good for someone who's never snorkeled before, or tweens/teens. When my kids were little they were too scared to try it.

As far as getting a chair, on our May trips, even on weekdays, by noon or so all of the chairs in better locations are taken. You can always find a few off the beaten path. For a 10:00 open, if you get there by 10:30 or 11 you should still be able to find a few chairs.

Thanks for all the great replies, y'all! I'm loving DISboards! One more question about water parks - can we bring towels from the Hotel or is that a no-no? Should we back them? (ugh). thanks again. :-))

I personally prefer Blizzad Beach because of its slides. If you want something more relaxing, go to TL, but if you're looking for some thrills and cool slides, BB would be my personal choice.

Yeah...we love both of them for different reasons...but for great slides(and more of them) it's BB.

For that unmistakeable Disney-themed experiencepixiedust:...Typhoon Lagoon wins hands down. The atmosphere at TL beats a lot of *real* beaches in Florida or elsewhere.

They rent towels at the water parks (I think it's really crappy considering how much you pay to get in, it should be included).

I would bring towels from home You can rent towels, but they won't be the nicest quality and they'll be white. Having your own beach towels will help you identify which chairs are yours.

TL vs BB- I have not been to BB, but I've been to TL a couple times! I absolutely love it! Since I live somewhere that has long, cold, snowy winters, the snow theme of BB does not appeal to me at all! When I'm on vacation at WDW, the last thing I want to see is snow!

I love the tropical island resort feel of TL. It really feels to me like being at the beach. I love how well its themed and all the details everywhere. The surf-style music really sets a fun and festive tone.... now any time I hear surf music(or the Beach Boys) when at home, I long to go back to TL! I think the slides are all really fun and diving with the sharks is a really unique experience (and its free!). I can't wait to go back to TL this summer!

You have a couple of options regarding towels.

  • You can bring your own from the hotel room, but then you need to lug the wet towels back to your room.
  • You can rent towels for $2 each. (I also read that if your towel gets really wet, you can "trade it in" for a dry one at no additional charge. Not sure if that's true; I didn't try it myself)
  • You can bring towels from home. But unless you're driving, I think it would be a pain to pack beach towels in your luggage.
Personally, I just rent towels. It's nice not to have to lug them back and forth.
