which route is best

Hello everyone!
We are gearing up to our second disney trip and have booked a vacation home at sunset key windsor palms ...
We are driving this time and would like to know the best route...we live close to Niagara falls/fort erie...Where do you usually stop if you drive down...the routes we are considering is the one via erie pa but have heard 1-75 is good too...
we have a van which is pretty good on gas.
Also do you people know if there is a loonie tracker to see when the dollar goes up?

We arent leaving till late april.

My family and I always take Interstate 75 and on our 1st day of driving we go all the way to Cleveland, Tennessee. Now on our 2nd day of driving we stay in Valdosta, Georgia because we don't want to arrive in Clearwater Beach around 7:00 PM or 8:00 PM. So by doing that the next day we can arrive the next day sometime in the afternoon.

Since we are close to the peace bridge how do we get from erie to 1 75 Id like to stick with the one road...but cut down on the backtrack of going thru detroit...so erie looks good...I see the erie way cuts two hrs or more off the driving and we only have one driver...

I totally agree...the shortest/fastest route is my favourite. We live in Oakville and when we drive down we like to leave at about 2:30-3am and then drive until about 9pm on the first day. This gets us around Savannah, GA. We don't make many stops...usually just gas and bathroom breaks. We pack our breakfast and lunch in the cooler and then only stop for a fastfood dinner. We pick a hotel that includes breakfast...we have never paid more than $65. Since we have made our first day a long one we can sleep in a little and then get breakfast and still be at our WDW resort in time for lunch.

We are planning on leaving by five am...we have to go over the border at the peace bridge...and we will drive till noon then break ...we cant take food over the border can we so we will need to buy stuff at the supermarket in buffalo...We are hoping for Charlotte or farther...to spend the night.

You should be able to easily reach Charlotte. It's about 11 hours from the border.

On the food front you can take dry goods and prepared food. Fruit is the big concern. That's okay too as long as it is from the US and you leave the origine stickers on it.

The food thing is about 50/50. The fruit, as mentioned, is an issue but also meat. I believe that technically right now the meats are allowed as long as it's not game meat. We have crossed many, many times with a cooler full of fruit and sandwiches etc. and have never even been asked about it. The last time the cooler was right in front of the border guard when he opened the door and he didn't even mention it. He was more concerned with who was in the car and where we were going.

So I say pack the cooler and if they take it....they take it. It's not that big of a deal. You can very safely make tuna, egg or PB&J and leave the stickers on the fruit. We also take cheese and crackers, muffins and lots of snacks like pretzels and trail mix.

We drive 12 hours to columbia, s.c. and book a hotel ahead with our credit card that has a 6.p.m. hold (in case we have to cancel du to car troublemake sure you have the 800 # handy I have a folder with all this) plus make sure it has a quick continental breakfast with it. We have 8 hours the next day to disney.

If you only want to do around 8 hours Beckley wv is good. For washroom stops we always watch for a wendys, or fast food place to head off the hwy and use those washrooms and grab a snack off the .99cent menu.

Or at the beginning of each new state there are welcome centres and these ones have people working in them and are pretty safe.

BEWARE OF SOMMERSVILLE WV, DO NOT SPEED GO SLOWER THAN THE SPEED THERE AS THE TOWN HAS MADE ITS MONEY FROM TOURISTS EVEN ONE MILE OVER THE SPEED LIMIT. We had a cop pace us on the two lane part of it.

You want to eat light. I also pack a lunch, water bottles, for on the road the first day and snacks, we have never been bothered in 8 trips over the border.

Yes..this is true. It's no joke they will stop you for going 1 mile over the limit. We just set our cruise control for a couple of miles under the limit. I find it strange that people speed through here though since there are a lot of stop lights. We have seen more police cars through that stretch than we have seen on the entire journey to Disney.

We live in Fort Erie and always take this route. The I-75 would add more than 2hrs to your drive. The only reason for someone in our area to take the I-75 route is due to weather.

We normally leave at 5am and stop in Columbia SC for the night. Then leave at 7am the next morning and arrive at Disney between 2-2:30pm.

Man Fights West Virginia Speed Trap with Signs
A Summersville, West Virginia businessman fights back against a small town speed trap.

Fed up with excessive ticketing by the Summersville, West Virginia police department, local businessman Charles McCue is fighting back. He has put up a giant sign reading, "Summersville, The World's Largest SPEED TRAP 4 MILES AHEAD" to warn motorists of the upcoming danger.

The $350,000 sign marks the portion of Route 19, a popular interstate shortcut, where the speed limit drops from 65 to 50 MPH -- and police are invariably waiting with radar guns. Police write between 10,000 and 18,000 tickets a year generating millions in revenue for the town of just 3250 residents.

McCue, 60, maintains that the police are scaring away business. About ten years ago, he banned the police from using his shopping center parking lot as a staging ground for activities.

"I'll be damned if they're going to set up radar on my customers and take the money they were going to spend in my shopping center," McCue told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Despite giving away 6000 bumper stickers ridiculing Summersville's efforts, McCue is not satisfied. He is planning on installing a second billboard on the other side of town to ensure that everyone entering and leaving the city gets the message.

"We definitely consider what they're doing a speed trap," said Eric Skrum, spokesman for the National Motorists Association. "There's just a few in the country that really stick out like Summersville."
