Trying to decide which restaurant would be good to eat at in MGM. Will have 10 and 3 yr old DDs along. We ate at 50's Printe Time and I didn't care for it. It was ok. Maybe there are things there that are outstanding, but I can cook better than that. So I'd like something beyond meatlaof and mashies with chewy green beans. We were going to try HBD last year, but my youngest needed to go back to the room. I welcome all opinions! :)

I have only ate at Hollywood and Vine with the fantasmic package. Food was good, fresh and great selection(buffet).

Brown Derby!! I've taken my kids there since they were little, and it's never been a problem. They have the normal kids offerings, but great food for adults. It's a must-do on our list for each trip.

I also really enjoyed Hollywood & Vine. I'm not really a buffet person, but I thought the selection was excellent and everything tasted surprisingly fresh and good. We've been to all of the other restaurants at MGM and have found them to be hit or miss. Except for the Sci-Fi which has consistently been a miss!

Although you did not like it, Prime Time was a hit for us last week! The meatloaf was better than I ever had. I know you mentioned you could cook better than that. I'd love to come to your house for dinner!

We enjoyed Hollywood and Vine - this was one of our favorite buffets. Very good selection

The Sci-Fi- but primarily just for lunch since it specializes in sandwiches etc.
I think with kids you can't go wrong here- you sit in big cars to eat, there is a cheesy movie playing (in black in white), the servers are on rollar skates (this still happens right?)
I must disagree with a previous poster about the Brown Derby. I'm not sure I would take my children there as it is a little more upscale and not much for child-like atmposphere. However, if the children are older and well behaved in restaurants- have at it- the food is great!
(PS- no flames about children at Brown Derby it is just my opinion, and I have no intention of taking my 2 year old there because I would hate for him to pitch a fit and ruin the dining experience of those around me)

Thanks all! Maybe I'll do Sci Fi for Lunch and one of the other 2 for dinner. We eat at many different places (price wise) and our kids are used to going out to eat. I make sure we eat right around the time my 2 yo gets hungry and bring my own crayons and small toys. She's usually really good. Learned from my 9 yo...never try to eat out with a overhungry, overtired child it doesn't mix well. So basically..we go by our 2 yo's schedule (most of the time).

Marathonmommy...you're welcome anytime! I make a mean Chicken Artichoke Penne Pasta! :rolleyes1 (Me tootin' my own horn)

How's the italian place?

Pam

i think the best food is Brown Derby..it is not a themed rest. though like prime time, it's themed as old hollywood so maybe your dd could be "movie stars" for the lunch. the food is good, the service very elegant. it really didn't feel like we were eating in a park at all. my girls would have liked it at that age since it's"fancy"( boys probably not so much)

haven't tried hollywood or mama's( recently) but imo the other is not very good-scifi... expensive and crummy as in burnt food- so burnt it was ridiculous to even serve especially after an hr wait for a burger which evidently was on the grill for the entire hr.( not including the 45 min after adr time wait to get a table in a near empty rest.)

While we enjoy Sci-Fi and PTC (must dos) our favorite food restaurant is Brown Derby, hands down!

My kids would refuse to go to MGM without eating at 50's Prime Time and Sci-Fi Drive-In. But, as for food, you can't go wrong with Brown Derby. The food really is excellent and the service is wonderful! :teeth:

We love The Hollywood Brown Derby and my sister goes there with her 4 children ages 11 and under and they love it too!
BTW, I would love it if you can pm me with your recipe for Chicken Artichoke Penne Pasta. I've got my Penne with Vodka Sauce cooking right now and your dish sounds like something my family would enjoy also. Thanks! :flower:

I have eaten at all the MGM places except HBD. I like them all equally. I will only do sci fi for lunch since I feel their menu and prices are better at lunch. I really felt mama melrose was over priced but the time we ate there it was on FDP so we were sorta "forced" to order more than we normally would.

HI,
I'm another one who likes Hollywood and Vine.
We ate there for the first time during our last trip and I would not hesitate to eat there again Great selection and the food was yummy. Getting the pass for Fantasmic was an extra bonus!

Love 50's prime time. Plenty of decent food. great deserts and family. What more could you ask for.

We went in August and had Mama Melrose for dinner and Sci Fi for lunch. I liked the theming at Sci Fi (the food was good, but not great) and the food at Mama Melrose was delicious, but theming nothing spectacular, it is a nice place to relax :earsgirl: .

Depends on my mood.... so if I am in the mood for a really good meal I like Brown Derby, otherwise my favorite is 50's Prime Time Cafe.
