Buy where you'll think you're going to want to stay most of the time. True you can stay anywhere, ( provide it's available ) at 7 mos. mark, but this should influence your decision. At least a lil.

How is that a negative? Having WDW transportation, regardless of mode is & always will be a plus.:confused3 The 3 times that we drove to WDW, my car stayed put for the entire vacay..... I'd rather let them do the driving..:teeth:

because if you stay at the other of the high rated hotels you can walk to the parks

Stopped at AKL for our honeymoon and loved it, it is the location that really puts us off!

WL gets my vote! We own at SSR and GF and love both. We have stayed at the others and we're lucky enough to stay at WL at Christmas which was on my bucket list. Oh my we loved it! The construction work did not bother us at all. Staff friendly , great transport , near MK and delightful theme. We would like to buy the new offering when it comes out! I like AK but we found it a little remote .

Not sure what refurbishment has to do with anything; over the course of ANY of these resorts' contracts, they will be refurbished multiple times.

I would take the time to really understand what I was buying and take the time to experience the resorts for myself. What we like may be really different than what you like, we bought BLT based on emotion and what others were saying and it has ended up to be our least favorite resort.

Will they extend current WL buyers/extend them?

we love BWV, you can walk to two parks and also have entertainment on the boardwalk. You need to at least visit the different resorts even if you don't stay there and what do you want from a resort?

Not all of them. At some point at all DVC resorts if you want to see all of WDW you are going to be on a bus or in a car. Personally for me walking to the park is highly over rated. I am so dang tired when there, I will gladly take a bus any day. :)

Also what you like now might change. We loved OKW and SSR for years but now our favorite is AKL. I do not like the resorts close to the park, non resort guests, due to the fact it it close to a park, add to the crowd at the resort making it less than peaceful. I love the out of way resorts for the quietness.

Disney has not provided any information about the current VWL owner contract extensions. Nobody knows what Disney will do. For the purposes of purchasing, I would assume that the VWL contract will expire in 2042 with no guarantee of being able to extend that contract.

Well that is a question I would like to know! Most rumours ( there is nothing official ) are that it will be a new offering and not include current WL owners to book there at 11 months. There are several threads on the topic in fact. Be most interesting!

It's not like your saving any time though... Except BLT.

There are literally only 3 other villas where you can walk from to a park...BLT--> to MK BC/YC & BWV ---to both EP & HS...
The time it will take you to walk from BC to HS is definitely more than taking a bus from AK to HS. And also from BWV as well....And from BWV to IG is roughly about the same as a bus from AK to Epcot... All this & less exhaustion..LoL Save the walkin for the park....

True it is a perk to be within walking distances to a park, but you do pay a premium for that( which you have to factor in the price vs. AKV )

While I do/did enjoy my 2 stays @ BWV, I really enjoyed the 2 relaxing trips to AKV......It's definitely a vacation within a vacation....
The only drawback was a really nice 20 min. bus ride to MK....Which I thoroughly enjoyed....:confused3

LoL we almost impulse bought here as well back in 2009......We could of got a great deal, plus the fact that it was brand new & dues were real LOW...... We hemmed & hawed, and waited 2 more years & then bought a used contract thru DVC @ SSR. But I know what you're sayin...We really have no desire to stay there, Unless everywhere else was sold out. ( Which will not happen )Especially not for the point premiums either.

my reaction was just the opposite - although their constant changing the rules is a problem - but still love the resort.

to the OP - everyone is different - so what I like you might not. Go visit them - then you will know, Always look at the facts - when I sold OKW for BLT several years ago (before the big down turn at OKW and SSR) though it might turn out to be a mistake. but for me that is not the case. Love BLT - and only stay at OKW when nothing else is available. Now it is still cheaper point wise to stay at OKW - but the dues are pretty high. Always check what you will be paying in dues (maintenance fees) these are the long term cost and will go up each year.

I own at OKW, purchased an existing contract in 2002, sight unseen. I love it because it's a little more laid back and the bigger rooms. Have stayed over the years at many resorts. Most recently at BLT. Was great having the monorail system at your door (hate busses). Yes maintenance dues are going up, but all resorts over time will as they age, so long term, I don't see that as a deciding factor. You have got to go with the resort you most like and treat as if this is your only choice to get reservations as the membership continues to grow.

AKL would probably cost less initially, but generally has higher maintenance fees. I'd probably look at total cost of ownership and buy at the resort that is cheapest. They all have good and bad points.
