I am thinking for next year of going to WDW the week before Christmas and then leaving on the 26th.

Which DVC resort would you say is the best to wake up and spend Christmas morning at and why?

Also, where would you want to have Christmas dinner?

thanks! Marley

What a difficult question!

Beach Club is nice with its tree in the lobby and the Gingerbread carousel. This year I saw the lobby decorations at BW and they were grand also. Then there is the Grand Floridian and their Gingerbread candy store. The Wilderness Lodge is also beautiful at Christmas.

Oh my, just pick one!

Wilderness Lodge...no question! It is breathtaking during the holidays.

I concur - Wilderness Lodge hands down. And for dinner, Liberty Tree Tavern in the MK!

We woke up on Christmas morning this year at OKW. We ate in our dining room. This was our best trip ever.

Easy one...OKW without a doubt. If you want a christmas tree in your room OKW would be the place for you as well. The rooms at the other resorts aren't big enough for your own tree. That is unless you stay in a grand villa at BWV or one of the corner 2 bedrooms at VWL.

We were in a 1 bdrm at OKW from 12/15 through 12/22 and had more than enough room for our tree (this wouldn't work in an OKW studio). We sent our decorations to the resort a week before we left home and they were there waiting for us when we checked in. That same day we bought a fresh cut tree just down the road from the new Winn-Dixie, brought it to the resort and had a good time decorating it. We even coordinated to have one of the bell staff take the tree home with him when we checked out. We'll be doing this again next year...so if you stay at OKW don't forget to wave if you see us driving through the resort with a 7 foot tree in the trunk of our rental car.

True the lobbies at VWL, BCV and BWV are beautiful but I would think you would like to wake up in your villa and not in one of the lobbies. ;)

I can't improve on these suggestions! :)

We have yet to experience Christmas at WDW. December 2003 here we come! Any other suggestions for Christmas dinner? We have yet to try the Liberty Tree Tavern.

DBBN... what do you mean by the corner 2 bedroom units at the VWL? Am I missing something here? We do want a tree in our room. We stayed on the 5th floor this past summer halfway down the long hall facing the woods.

When I think Christmas, I think COLD! For me, the choice is Wilderness Lodge. I enjoy the other DVC locations, but they all seem very "summer" to me. The Lodge with that great fireplace seems like the perfect place for a Christmas vacation.

Villas at wild lodge....just came back form x-mas there......had beautiful live tree in a one bedroom. We have been to almost every resort at wdw and wl is the hands down favorite

Since you are asking about DVC resorts.VWL with the WL next door, you have the best of both.

We really loved how the WDW resorts had it's own unique way of decorating for the holidays.Didn't make it around to every WDW resort, but almost.(missed PO and Allstars)The Polynesian being our least favorite for Xmas decorations.A tie between WL/VWL and GF for best decorations.Imho the GF had the best tree. It was huge.

What I mean by this is...back in August of 2001 we stayed in a 2 bdrm at VWL for 2 days before a DCL cruise and for 2 days after (My wife and I took 2 of our nieces on their first cruise). The first 2 days we were assigned a room just like the one you stayed in. It was just like the floor plan depicts on page 122 of the new guidebook. Much like the typical 2 bdrm units at BCV and BWV. Very nice but small. We own at OKW and have been spoiled by the size of 1 & 2 bdrm units there.

BUT...after the cruise we were assigned room 4528. This is one of the rooms that exit in the hallway that overlooks the lobby. Meaning if you look over the railing in the hallway you would see the 3rd and 2nd floors below you all the way to the first floor. This particular room overlooks the wooded area at the front of the resort. It was HUGE compared to the cookie cutter rooms that line the long hallways. The bedrooms appeared to be sized much like all the other bedrooms at the villas but the living room appeared maybe twice the size. Huge as in OKW size...I didn't measure it but it may very well be LARGER than the OKW 2 bdrm units. As far as I can tell there are at least 6 of these huge 2 bdrm units...they are 2528, 3528 and 4528 all with views of the front of the resort. Rooms 2519, 3519 and 4519 all with views of the pool.

I call them the corner 2 bdrms because that's where they are. Page 116 of the guidebook shows what I mean. They are the rooms at the corner of the buliding (stone facade) closest to the walkway that leads to the pool.

I'd say room 4519 would be perfect...huge, high floor with a pool view, close to the elevators, close to the pool, the front exit even the health club. Just perfect.

Almost forgot...and big enough for a christmas tree.

Thanks DBBN! We know what rooms to request this month!!

We just came back from a stay at Christmas time at BCV, and it was lovely, but after visiting all the resorts, I would stay at WLV, hands down, due to the decorations in the lobby and around the resort. It was so nice sitting in front of the fireplace at Christmas in one of the rocking chairs, with the tree in the middle of the lobby. Since it was cold that day--in the 60's:D --sitting there was especially nice. And I didn't have to fight for a rocker in the DVC area! As for Christmas dinner, just remember that you will need to reserve in advance with a credit card, and there is a cancellation fee imposed for last minute cancellations. We ate at Yachtsman Steakhouse, which was terrific, and also liked Artist's Pointe, but Boma's was my hands-down favorite. Have you ever eaten nutted salmon or carrot and ginger soup? Well, I never have, being a hamburger-type of person, but Boma's ruined me for hamburgers, and I've been wanting salmon and carrot soup ever since. Mac's and Burger King just don't have the same allure that they had before our trip!!:p

WLV no question in my mind, course I'm partial since this is our home resort. GF was beautiful with the HUGE tree and the gingerbread house. Didnt make it to any other resorts. The fireplaces at WL and villas made it real cozy on those cold days. It just feels like Christmas around there.

Be aware that there are other "corner 2 BR" units at VWL that do not have the large LR that is described above. The villa is a different configuration, but not bigger.
