Which resort has the best transportation?

Just curious.

We are DVC members at BW and we discovered that they do not run buses anymore to Epcot or MGM. The used to have a bus route but no more. When the afternoon electrical storms blew in during our recent stay, the boats were sometimes stopped. I had to take a cab once to meet my family who were already at MGM.

Monorail resorts are great for MK. How are they for other parks?

Large moderate resorts have lengthy internal routes that take time but they don't share busses with other resorts. The Fort Wilderness Campground can take quite a lot of time to get to your home.

Swan, Dolphin, Yacht, Beach, and Boardwalk often share routes with each other and that adds travel time.

I really don't have an opinion but am curious about which resort has the best transportation.

We've always had good success with WL. They run buses to every park, usually only make one or two stops, and generally keep to schedule. Plus, they have the boat to MK. . .foul weather notwithstanding. :paw:

I think Poly probably has the best transportation, just because you can walk to the TTC, so that gives you double the options. For MK you have the resort boat launch, the TTC boat launch, the resort monorail, and the TTC monorail. For Epcot you can walk right over to the TTC for the monorail. Then for all the buses, you can choose between going back to the Poly or going to the TTC which doubles the number of choices.

It all depends on what park you favor.

For example for the Magic Kingdom I would say the Contemporary. You have bus, monorail, and a 5-7 minute easy walk. The PR is ideal if you want great transportation to the MK and Epcot since as previously mentioned it is right next door to the TTC, you do not have to switch trains like you do from the GF and CR. You can walk to the GF from the PR but not to the MK.

Traveling to Disney Studios and Animal Kingdom from the Monorail loop deluxe resorts is rather easy since they have their own resort bus that only travel from the resort to the specific park...no sharing buses with any other resort or park. The only issue is on the return where you must wait for a resort bus to come pick you up which may have just left prior to your arrival at the resort bus stop.

AKL and POP are the only resorts that have one bus stop and do not share with any other resorts.

Maybe I misinterpreted this but there is no bus from the CR to MK.

CSR doesn't share either as I've been told. However, they do have internal bus stops.

I found WL busses to be lacking. WL actually shared with Ft. Wilderness. I can't tell you how many times we wound up going on a bus to Ft. W, then somewhere else (BB?) and then arriving in Animal Kingdom 45 minutes later!

We have stayed at the CR and the GF.

The 3 MK resorts shared buses to DS and AK each stay we were there. 1st stop, CR, 2nd stop Poly, 3rd stop, GF.

Also, there was not a bus to the MK from CR or GF.

This may sound crazy but the bus service from the values and moderates have always been much better for us than the bus service at the deluxe. Granted we have only stayed at deluxe twice, once at BC and once at WL. But both times the buses were few and far between and almost always shared. Buses at POR were pretty good the only problem there was you shared them with like four stops so they could get quite crowded. The last few trips we have stayed in the Allstars value resorts and believe it or not we were not completely dissatisfied with the services. Only during the very early morning or late at night did the buses go to more than one Allstar resort. (ie only Sports, only Music, only Movies) The rest of the time you had a designated bus for each of the three. Also if you really wanted to get back to the resort you could always take any Allstar bus and just do a little walking when you got back. The last trip and for our upcoming trip in November we will be driving. I think this is actually the optimal way to go if you can. We will take the bus to MK and maybe Epcot and MGM, but definatly drive to DTD, and everywhere else. Your parking pass lets you go to any of the resorts for meals and when we feel like it we will drive to MGM and Epcot as well.

ITA the best transportaion is at the ALL Stars Hands down.
The All Star resorts are actually my favorite resort.
Bus times from the All Star resorts to the are among the shortest.
Bus times according to PassPorter.com

All Star Buses-CBR buses---CSR buses--PO buses--- Contemporary
MK 20 min---- 20 min-----15 min------10 min---20 min(mono)
Epcot 10 min-- 15 min-----15 min------10 min---15 min
MGM 10 min----12 min-----15 min------15 min---20min
AK 10 min------20min-------10 min----15 min---20 min
DTD 15 min----20 min------35 min-----15 min---35 min

It only takes 10 minutes to get to Epcot,MGM and AK from All Stars.
MK is 20 min away. That's the same amount of time it takes on the monorail from the Contemporary.

A WORD ABOUT BUS SHARING:

It is usually just our stop and maybe one more on the way to the parks. On the way back sometimes its all 3 but often Sports and Music share and Movies has it's own bus back.

I guess some people who stay at POP see all 3 All Star names on the return sign of our bus stop when they head to the POP bus stop and think All Stars also has 3 stops on the way to the park.
(Even when we stop at another AS resort to load up it has not taken more than 5 minutes and we are on our way!)

I am 55 year old and travel several times a year. I often stay at 4 star hotels.
So the deluxe resorts do not have anything special for me.
All Star is like being in the heart of Disney's Magic and that is where I want to be.

I have visited WDW more than a dozen times with the 1st time in Oct. 1971. It was brand new. I've stayed at FW, Disney Inn, a few the of Hotels on hotel Blvd., CBR and the towers at the Contemporary. I got to see the MK from my balcony at the Contemporary and I'm happy I got to experience it once. I just prefer the All Star Resorts.
The theaming is pure Disney.
My last 4 visits have been at The All Stars and this fall when we take dd,dsil, and our grandson age 3 we are staying at the All Stars Music. I thought about AKL and even though we can well afford AKL I just wanted Alex to experience the Disney Magic :wizard: at the All Stars on his first visit.
Where else can one find Donald Duck or Mickey Mouse at the pool?
Have fun at Disney!

While it is true that the AKL has great bus service.....Poly cannot be beat as far as transporation as a whole.

You can take a boat to MK or a monorail (I don't know if there is a bus or not). OR you can walk to the TTC and take the large boat to MK - not sure why you would do that with a boat going straight from Poly to MK...but you can.

You can take a bus to EPCOT or right next door (I mean RIGHT next door) is the TTC and you can hop on the monorail directly to EPCOT.

The buses go to AK/Blizzard Beach, MGM and DTD. We stayed there in January and it was an extremely slow time and we didn't stop at any other resort coming or going.

But really, I think that Disney does a good job with the transportation and we've never had a complaint no matter where we've stayed. The only time I thought I was on a bus too long was at Dixie Landings (not POR). There were so many stops around the resort that it seemed like we were forever before we started toward a park!

Best bus service goes to AKL. It was outstanding during our visit. Best monorail resort goes to Poly because you can monorail to MK, walk to ttc and monorail to Epcot. I guess the best boat service would go to Epcot resorts (yc/bc, boardwalk) because you can take a boat to Epcot and MGM, or walk.

It took forever to get to AKL from MK and the same way back. We visit MK and Epcot a lot... so staying at AKL wouldn't be great for us. The Polynesian is for us. We like WL too. They have the boat and the bus to MK. We usually just take the bus... it's so much faster!

Depends on what your favorite parks are and if your feet count as transportation.

Overall Transportation: I like the Poly because the monorail is usually quick and the buses are on average ok. You also can walk to the TTC which can get you just about anywhere.

The Beach Club and Board Walk I do not like there transportation because the boats take to long. BUT it is great being able to walk into Epcot. Since Epcot is out favortie place to go we stay at the Beach club all the time.

Hope that helps.

Is this bus new? There haven't been busses to Epcot the last three stays at the Polynesian.

We have stayed at value, moderate, and deluxe hotels and the best bus service was AKL. It doesn't p/u any other hotels, so it was rarely crowded.

I don't remember them ever having buses from the Epcot resorts to Epcot or Disney Studios since I first went in 1997. From what I understand, if the boats are unable to run for any length of time, they might run a bus to get the guests back to those resorts. Kind of like when the monorail shuts down and they have to use alternate means to take guests from the Contemporary.

Usually the boats are stopped at one of the docks until the weather improves.

We like the convenience of the monorail particularly at the Poly. We had a miserable experience at the AKL in the off-season waiting for buses (was told many guests were complaining). When we go in the off-season we like the BC because it is so easy to walk to Epcot and the Boardwalk at night when everything else is closed. We did not like the buses in the past from the BC but during our last trip the bus only stopped at the YC and the BC. From what I understand the BC no longer shares buses with the S/D and BW. This was in January but we only took the bus to MK (drove everywhere else).

Personally I don't think any resort has the best transportation overall. They all do an adequate job and some certainly due to their location are better to certain parks. But no one resort is great to all locations.
