Which park first, US or IOA?

We have done Disney every year since 2001. Next year we are thinking of spending one night at Universal and do each park(one per day). Which one requires the most time? I was thinking we should do that one first so the second one would be a shorter day. The youngest will be 12 so the thrill rides are where they will want to spend the most time.

IOA has the best thrill rides ( also a bit more than UA ). When we have done, we usually start there since there is more we usually want to do/see at IOA and then we do UA.

Yes,we would stay in one of the resorts that offer the express pass.

Then it will not matter where you start. Just remember most of the thrill rides are on the IOA side. Also has the water rides where you will get very wet.

I wouldn't make any of the days shorter days. And, we really value the flexibility of the park to park ticket. As Harry Potter fans, our crew starts at Universal to travel as Harry would through Diagon Alley.

Is park to park something you can add after you get there, like the hopper at Disney. Maybe I should just start with park to park because I'm not sure what they will like and they might want to repeat something at the other park. It's hard throwing something new into a trip.

Yes, you can add it while you are there. In fact they have a convenient place to do that at the train station.

I would not upgrade just for that train ride, but if you think you would like to do more riding in in one park, then it makes sense.

Example, do IOA day one, do Studios day two, then head back to IOA to ride some more.

With EP, the studios side can be a shorter day.

But either way, you will have that option.
