Which MGM TS should we choose?

We are a party of 8, 4 adults and 4 children ages 13-3. We'll be on the dining plan so we can't get the fantasmic package and we also don't have to stick to a budget.

Which MGM TS restaurant is best? I've made ADR for Hollywood and Vine because my mom thought that at a buffet everyone could find something that they like, but I've read that the food is just ok and that it can be a loud place.

Where would you go?

With the ages of your kids, I would do Sci-fi or 50's Primetime. The kids will definitely like Sci-fi, but you may like the menu better at PT. I would advise you to look at the menus at www.allearsnet.com and see which appeals to you.

My family never misses PrimeTime Cafe. When my kids were little, it used to be the biggest kick for them to watch daddy get "airplaned" by "cousin Matt" so he would be "allowed" dessert.

My favorites for dinner are The Brown Derby, (a little $$$) and the 50's Prime Time both have great food. We enjoy Si-Fi for lunch.

We really like 50s for the fun--the food is "like Mom would cook".
We really love Sci-Fi for lunch both for the food and the incredible atmosphere.

Wow! That was my exact dilemma. Party size and ages (kids are 13, 9, 6, 3). LOL I ended up choosing Sci-Fi cause DH saw it in a WDW special on Food TV and thought it looked cool. Also, he is a HUGE MST-3000 fan, so this is right up his alley. Since DH leaves all of WDW planning to me, I took his comment as a sign and made the AR for Sci-Fi.

At the Prime Time you can probably all sit together. At the Sci Fi, you will likely be split up, since most cars sit 4 or 6.....They may have an 8 person car or 2, but not many. Our last trip, there was a large group = 12-15 seated near us in 3 or 4 cars, all close together.
We like both places - but you can 't really "talk" at the Sci Fi, so if family conversation/interaction is important, too, then go with the Prime Time. If you want a cool 1950's drive-in atmosphere, eating in the cars, old black and white movies on the screen then the Sci Fi is good....or you could go twice, and hit both of them :)
.....best chances for together seating is obviously "off times".....late lulnch or early dinner for example.

We're another family that never misses PrimeTime! It is always one of the highlights of our trip. Ask for Auntie Claire--she's a hoot!!

I love the Prime Time, but I also think Hollywood and Vine has very good food, and lots of variety, so it's likely everyone in your group will find something they like. I know they're not supposed to let you have the Fantasmic package with the Dining Plan, but I've heard some people say they've been allowed to. If you do eat there, you might as well try asking - maybe they'll even say yes, and if they don't, you'll still have had a good dinner.

We all loved the 50's prime time, and the kids died when our "baby sitter" made my mom eat her green beans. They enjoyed sci-fi, but I didn't. It was cool to sit and eat in the little cars, but all I ate was the fries. I couldn't even touch my sandwich. It had a really weird after taste. Good thing I wasn't that hungry to begin with!

Never miss 50's Primetime. W/ that many people in yuor group you will surely have a BALL!!!! Definately try it. You won't regret it!

Just thought I would add, if you do go to the 50's make sure everyone is up to it! When we went we sat by a family who just wasn't into having fun with the waiter, and they were bringing the mood in our little area down bigtime! We had a blast there though!

We've ate at H&V a couple of times and have always enjoyed it. We are people that don't like trying different things and the buffet there is just up our alley.
