I chose to book our package through AAA.
AAA members can get a discount ranging from 10-15% off the price of the accomodations. If you choose to book "room only" you can get the discount without going through AAA. But if you want the package (dining &/or tickets) along with the discount, you need to go through AAA.
I wanted that 15% off the price of our room. For us, that meant over $200 saved for the price of a $60 AAA registration fee. (And, by the way, we used the AAA roadside service during the year, so it paid for itself!)
And I wanted dining.
For my family of 5, dining adds on $140 per day-- for your family, it would be $130. For that money, I'm receiving 1 table service meal, 1 counter service meal and 1 snack per day. Could we eat for less money? Probably, if we stuck to mostly counter service. But I don't think we would save oodles of money.
And I LOVE table service meals while on vacation (anywhere, not just WDW.) I love the fact that it encourages us to really be a family, to sit and spend time together and talk about our day. Counter service meals seem to be all about eating so you can get to the next thing; table service meals seem to be about spending time together. Our lives are busy enough on a day to day basis-- I love the idea of stopping each day to enjoy each other. The fact that the
DDP allows us to do this at the Coral Reef or LeCellier or Chef Mickeys without sweating the cost makes the DDP a bargain in my book.
(PS: After all my talking about the AAA discount, we were one of the lucky ones who received a 40% PIN in the mail. My AAA agent had no problem changing the package-- and even the resort-- to get us that 40% discount.)
