Which is the best stand mixer- Kitchen Aid, or Cuisinart?

KitchenAid... although I have only had mine for 4 years, my Dmom has had her's for 15 + years and my DSis got my grandmothers after she passed away so 25+ years on that one! I love it!!! I am tryin to find a cover for it, it sits on the counter.

Another vote for Kitchenaid. I have had mine since 1991 with nary a slowdown.

When we remodeled our kitchen I had a swing-up shelf installed for it and it has been a Godsend:

I also recommend getting a second bowl (e.g., if you bake a lot) as well as a snap-on lid. For example, if you mix something but won't be using it right away, you can stick the lid on and put it in the Fridge.

I also have my mother's Cuisinart from 1975 and that is still going strong too. However, the Kitchenaid is more useful.

I am truly amazed that cuisinart didn't get a single vote. Has anyone ever used one?

I have a KitchenAid and a Cuisinart. My KitchenAid is huge and has one of those levers where you have to lower the bowl (think some models have the beater arm that lifts up). I think that makes it a pain when you have to scrape down the sides. Plus, it's too big to fit under my counter so I have to store it in a box and pull it out when I'm doing some serious baking.

The Cuisinart has an arm that lifts out and isn't so big.

Not much help from me (sorry) since I like them both and use them for different purposes.

ya know, I have a Kitchenaid and I'm not wild about it for one reason. There is no tilt in the neck so I have to go through a major adjustment just to get the bowl out or pick up the beaters for a minute. Be careful about what you want your mixer to do before you buy one. It didn't occur to me that I would not be able to swing the beaters up for a minute to scrape the bottom, add something or simply take the bowl out. I watch the cooking shows and they all have mixers that swing up for quick use. Wish I had realized this was an issue before I spent the big money.

I love my kitchenaid. When we went shopping for mine, my husband discovered that the bigger one has the same motor as the other, and that it is the same pin that is likely to break in both. So, realize that you aren't upgrading the motor.

Kitchenaid. My brother worked in marketing for them and I visited Troy, OH several times back then. I have all the attachments too but have only used a few of them, but when I did they worked great!

I'm sure that they are both very fine machines, but based on the fact that Cuisnart had a better guarantee, the head lifts, it has a timer, and I could get a blender attatchment for it I decided on Cuisinart. We went to Sears to compare them, and the Cuisinart was on sale for $299.00. The attatchments were about 15% off too. I didn't have my money with me, so I returned 2 days later. By this time, most of the attatchments were on clearance. I got the pasta, blender, food processor, and meat grinder attatchments, and since I couldn't get a strainer attatchment I bought a manual one for $25, so I got everything for $545 tax included. I've used everything but the meat grinder, and am very happy with it. The pasta attatchment is a fiddley thing to clean, but I sure love the way it works. The food processor is quite loud, but not deafening. I got the 5.5 quart size.

Just got my KitchenAid! I looked around alot for them, got this one on QVC - it has the tilt head and came with a certificate to get the meat grinder for free. I just found out about the pasta maker, so I am excited about that too. It definitely is an investment, I hate to spend that much $$ - but I got it with a $30 rebate too, and it's on 6 month payments of under $50 :cool1:

PS - they had awesome colors - I got the Aqua Sky which isn't available at regular retail stores!

I have the Kitchenaid Artisan model and it lifts up. It's one quick lever and lift. Is that the major adjustment? Mine is about 5 years old. I haven't given much attention to other models so not sure about how they operate. We love it and caught it on a sale at Lowes - tip from this board - It was about $150 down from the high of $299.

Mine is Pink for the cancer awareness promo. I bought a number of other utensils in pink also!

I had my first Kitchen Aid for 17 years. By the way it still works I gave it to a friend. I only got a new one because I wanted a bigger one. I used mine every friday night for pizza. There were many days I used it three times and had to keep washing the bowl. I have a garden so I have the shredder and grinder attachments. I use them to make pickles and relish. I bake cookies all the time. At christmas time I use it to make about 8 dozen cookies as well as fudge. It stays on my counter all the time because I have the room. It doesn't get much rest. I just got the ice cream attachment this year. It is fun to make your own ice cream and Yum! it is good. I got my first Kithen aid for Christmas from my husband. I tell him all the time it was the best gift he ever got me. I know some people think it is not romantic but I think it is.
I can't say enough about it.
I hope you like whatever you get as much as I do.

I had mine for about 2 years and had to replace the motor on it. It was a major pain in the ****. There was no kitchenaide store around my house, so we had to drive it 150 miles to get it fixed. It cost $120 to get it fixed and it took 6 weeks to do. I've actually heard that the Bosch mixer is the one to get. If I had to do it over again, I would buy the Bosch mixer. They are considerably more expensive, but I wouldn't have to worry about it breaking down all the time. Even with the new motor, it will overheat when making bread frequently and just stop. I've only had the new motor for 1 year. I have the 6 qt. model. Good luck!!
