We're trying to plan our November trip since we normally do a December trip but our SoCal AP no longer work on the weekends in December. I guess they just removed Sunday's for the SoCal AP in December so we need to push our trip a little earlier into November.

Right now, we've settled on going either the weekend of Veteran's Day or Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday of Thanksgiving week. The other option that we might have is to go Saturday, Sunday, and Monday after Thanksgiving.

I know there are some blackout dates in our trips and so that leads me to my other question. We're planning to renew our AP on the blackout dates and so we should be given a blackout date pass (unless they stop this too before we go.) Our AP expire on 12/20. Does anybody know how many days in advance we can renew? I thought I read somewhere that it was something like 45 or 60 but I can't seem to find it anymore.

When I looked at my pass online renewal option, the website said "Passes are eligible for renewal 40 days prior to their expiration date."

My guess is that Veteran's Day weekend is likely to be pretty busy, especially if that is the kick-off weekend for the holiday season.

I would think that Thanksgiving week would be busier as many schools take the whole week off. That said, I've been there the past few Veteran's Days and they've been pretty busy, too. Either way, it'll be crowded.

So it depends on when Veterans Day is, because some local schools will always take a Monday or Friday (observed date) and some will always take the actual day so it changes. It also depends on when Christmas starts. Some years, the perfect storm has Veterans Day on a Friday, same day Christmas starts, and capacity crowds. Other years not so bad, when it is mid-week.

This year it is a Sunday, so schools may take Monday off, or some won’t take any days off. This could mean a 3 day weekend for a lot of kids so I would think it may be pretty crowded.

I feel like the last few years the first 2 days of Thanksgiving week have been pretty nice, moderate crowds. Not all schools get the whole week off and Christmas has been there for a week or two so the initial rush has passed. I would choose then!
