I'm getting married in early April 2008. Our wedding is on a Sunday, but we are planning on spending a week there (Wednesday before our wedding until the Tuesday after it - honeymooning a few months later...anyway). The plan is to rent DVC points.

We want to stay at either BCV or GF. One, which is better? Two, is it worth the extra points (money) to upgrade from the studio to the one bedroom? Personally, I want the jacuzzi tub that comes with the 1 bedroom but is it justifiable based on the difference in price? Personally, I've never stayed at either of those resorts. Which is better...BCV or GF?

Thanks!

I'm not sure if you mean you are thinking about possibly renting points to stay at the GF, but if so, don't do it. You'll end up paying more than with rack rate - instead try for a AAA discount or a package.

For a honeymoon, I'd probably lean towards the splurge to stay at the GF. If you do decide to rent a DVC (keep in mind you won't get daily mousekeeping), I'd absolutely go for a 1 bedroom for a honeymoon because of the king bed and jacuzzi tub.

Congratulations. We Disneymooned 14 years ago.

If cost is an issue, renting points to stay in a studio at BCV will by far be the least expensive option. Even doing the 1-BR, it will still be a bit less than paying cash for a GF room for a week. The 1-BR is definitely worth the upgrade for the extra room and amenities, but as you point out, it does come with a cost. So from a cost standpoint, BCV would be the logical choice. (and you get the jacuzzi also if you do the 1BR)

As far as resorts go though, the BCV doesn't quite make it into the same league as the GF. The BCV is nice enough for what it is, but lacks the elegance and charm of the GF. For a special occasion, the GF would be my choice if the expense was manageable. But you would have to give up your tub.

Good luck!

And, believe it or not, if BCV is your choice, you need to start making arrangements NOW. BCV is the smallest DVC resort, so sells out quickly. April is usually a pretty difficult reservation because of Easter and Spring break vacations being booked. Actual difficulty will depend on how close you are to Easter, but none of it will be easy. DVC members who own at BCV can book 11 months out at BCV. That means NOW - May 2007. By the time you get to the 7 month window - September 2007 - when any members can book BCV, there may not be any rooms left.

So make your decisions soon - and Congratulations!

We just spent 9 days at the Grand Floridian Resort for our Honeymoon, and had a fantastic time!
