Which hotel restaurant?

Hello, DISers. Only 27 days until we head back to DL for DH'S 40th birthday celebration. He wants to try something new, so we are thinking about having his birthday dinner at one of the hotels. We have only tried Goofy's Kitchen in the past. I am hoping to get suggestions from those of you who have experience with the other options. I was looking at Storyteller's Cafe or PCH Grill, but am open to other suggestions.

How about Napa Rose, or Steakhouse 55?

Lots of options in DTD as well.

I like the Jazz Kitchen or Catal - both in Downtown Disney and within an easy walk. If you want to eat at the hotels, then I would recommend Steakhouse 55 for a really nice dinner, or Storyteller Cafe for a moderate priced restaurant (Disney standards).

Napa Rose is my favorite restaurant, but I like Steakhouse 55 too. If you're not up for a mega-splurge, I agree with looking into the DTD options, like maybe Ralph Brennan's or House of Blues. I also like Catal. Check out the menus and see what appeals to you.

DH and I love the Jazz Kitchen, but when we took DS14 during the last trip he really did not. I am thinking that something like Napa or Steakhouse would be the same; just a bit too complicated for him. I was thinking, while looking at the menu, that Storyteller's or PCH might offer something that is appealing to him while also allowing DH and I to indulge in something fairly grown up. I am not sure if people have had good experiences at either or both, which is why I am putting the question out there.

As far as DTD, we have never tried Catal. I think I will take a look at the menu.

I'd recommend Storytellers over PCH Grill.

We generally only have eaten at Storyteller's for special occasions, usually Thanksgiving dinner or a character meal. We love the restaurant's atmosphere and have usually had good service. All of the foods we have tried there were very tasty. We especially love to go there for the Thanksgiving buffet which I believe is similar to the regular buffet just with some seasonal flavors added.

I have friends who stayed at GCH and ate at Storyteller's everyday when they were there and declared it their favorite restaurant at the resort. They felt the selection of entrees was family-friendly, and they too enjoyed the taste and quality of the food.

We have eaten at PCH Grill a couple of times for dinner. For us, the main attraction was the fact that it was off the beaten path. It was very quiet and mostly empty both of the times we were there even though one of the times was during "normal" dinner time during spring break a couple years ago. The food there was fine but nothing special. I too would pick Storyteller's over PCH Grill.

We are going to try Storyteller's for DH's big birthday dinner. Now I want to ask if people would recommend the dinner buffet or ordering as individuals? Is there a lot of variety in the buffet items? DH and DS17 love buffets, but I usually can't eat enough for it to be worthwhile. DS14 is a picky eater. Can some members of a dining party order as individuals and others order the buffet?

Yes, some individuals can order off the menu and some from the buffet. I have read comments that the buffet is not necessarily offered every night. Maybe that is during not-busy season? You might want to call Disney and check if the buffet is expected to be offered when you are there. The times we have had it, we have enjoyed it very much. It is not a really large spread though compared to a place like Goofy's or non-Disney buffets. Our group has always been satisfied though.
