Our RV was damaged earlier today.:sad2: We might need to stay in a hotel instead of in our RV at Fort. If so we will need a few rooms, nine power chairs take up alot of room.

Would love to here your ideas.Thank you

I would say try Old Key West in a Grand Villa. They sleep up to 12 and is one of the biggest (sq footage wise) Grand villas on property. They are also on one floor where others, like Saratoga are built as a two story unit.

I would think that OKW would also be the cheaper of the villas. I know that they are points wise for DVC members.

Thank you peemagg.

Single floor makes a big difference to us. Will look into that one.

If you decide to go that way, I would look into renting points; I hear it works out a lot cheaper. Otherwise, I think the rooms at cbr are the largest of the mods...

Thank you for the heads up. Renting points or paying out-right will depend of if insurance books for us or gives us the money to book.

I thought CSR had the most in the way of floor space, but none of the moderates are going to have any real number of accessible rooms with more than one bed in it.

Also, do you need certain things at the pool? Most pools like CSR have only bump steps, not a lift or zero entry.

My family stayed in a two bedroom suite at Saratoga Springs and loved it.

You may also want to consider Boardwalk or Beach Club DVC - then you can roll right to DHS and Epcot - I would think that would ease your travel burden quite a bit. Also, there is DVC at Wilderness Lodge and Contemporary, which may also help with travel ease.

There are only 2 OKW Grand Villas that are accessible. Both are on 2 floors. We stayed in the OKW GV in building 48. You enter on ground level. The kitchen, laundry room, living room and large dining room are huge and fully wheelchair accessible with a roll under sink in the kitchen.
There is a queen size sleeper sofa in the living room. They may have also added the chair that folds out to a twin size sleeper bed. There is a hall bathroom with a shower, which is not accessible (very small and not able to get a wheelchair in to use it).
The master bedroom has a King size bed and the bathroom there is accessible with a roll in shower and grab bars by the toilet.
There are 2 other bedrooms, with 2 beds in each and 2 bathrooms upstairs. Those are not accessible and the only way to get up there is by the stairway.

The other accessible GV at OKW is in one of the buildings numbered in the 60s. Since that building has elevators, it is possible to enter the top floor and the bottom floor from outside and roll in. But, you can’t get from one level to the other inside the villa, as far as I know. I have not been in that GV, so can’t tell you more about it.
There would be LOTS of room on the ground floor though for wheelchairs.

All the 2 bedroom villas at OKW were recently renovated and they added a lounge chair that makes into a twin sleeper. Previously, the 2 bedroom units were listed as sleeping 8 - I don’t know if they now allow 9 because of the twin sleeper. If so, that might be an option for you since there is lots of space and it may be possible to have Housekeeping remove some of the furniture if you don’t need it for seating (like a love seat in the living room and the dining room chairs).

I have heard that Boardwalk has some GVs that are on one floor, so possibly someone knows something about that.

The other consideration is buses. I don’t know how you planned to get to the parks, but that would be a consideration since each bus carries only 2-3 wheelchairs (with the majority only able to carry 2).

We’ve stayed a number of times in a one bedroom at Saratogo Springs, but found it kind of tight in places with even one wheelchair. We actually push the table all the way toward the bench (which is attached to the wall, I believe) and keep the chairs pushed in to get DD past the table to the living room area.

Saratoga does have a zero entry pool at the main pool.
OKW doesn’t have a zero entry pool, but does have a lift that can be placed for use at the main pool.

I was just going to suggest the Boardwalk as another alternative. Those Grand Villas are one floor. Sorry to miss lead you about OKW. I did check on the Boardwalk rooms to be sure it is on one level. There is also almost 2 living rooms in there with movable furniture to make more room for wheelchairs. The pictures of the room that I saw was not an accessible room. The pictures showed a King bed in the Master with its own bathroom, then 2 other bedrooms with 2 queen beds in each and each with its own bathroom.

We shipped our shuttle van down to Orlando ahead of time since we had read ahead of time that the buses only have a few tie-downs per bus.

Thank you for your ideas I will keep looking at them so I have a few that will work when talking with insurance Monday morning.

DH and I are set to each take half the kids and do more than one room if needed.

Our insurance rep told us this morning that as long as we can find a mix of rooms on Disney property at one resort they will work with the other insurance companies to help us stay on property rather than an offsit rental.

I would suggest AKV. I and 2 bedrooms are fewer points if renting a standard. Renting points does really make it more afordable. A 2 bdrm there will sleep 9 as does OKW. However it also has a zero entry pool. A GV is shown on the floor plan as being 1 floor however it is alot of points. The average rate for renting is $10 per point. If you go with Dave's Rentals it is $13 per point. Sign up for his email alerts. He does send alerts for specials. I have seen them for as low as $6 or as high as $9. There are also some online services that will deliver groceries to the resort for a small fee. This might help cut down on precious time. Hope this helps.

We only travel with on power chair. I don't have any experience traveling with more than one chair. We've only stayed at moderates. I would call Disney and see what they suggest. At a moderate a room with an accessible shower can have a connecting room. That would provide 2 queen/ full beds and one king. It would take a total of 4 rooms to make this option work. We also have some of the furniture removed to give us more space. The concern would be chair storage. Of the moderates, I believe that CBR has a zero entry pool. And I know that the Poly, which is a deluxe, has a Zero entry pool. The rooms there are much bigger than the mods and each room would accommodate 5 people. Again, I would call Disney to see what they suggest.

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of RV do you use?. We have given up camping since my DS's accident, but I would be very interested in hearing how you make this work.

Mouse's Shadow

our RV is a a rebuild that DH and I did ourselves with help of friends and hired help.

Now since you have one power chair there are off the self RVs with either a lift or ramp and wheelchair access bathroom. They have tie-downs for the chair.

A close friend of ours has a travel trailer that even has the ceiling track lift system.

Sue or anyone

the 2 bedroom OKW villas, do you know if there are more than one access. located close to each other? That way DH could take the boys and I take te girls while still being close to each other.

Thank you everyone for all the help and letting me vent.:grouphug:

Brat, Thank you so much! We went to an RV show a few years ago. The only thing we found was an Outback toy hauler that we thought could be easily converted. Maybe I need to do some further checking. I had never seen one with an accessible bathroom. Thanks again.
