My DH and I are seriously considering buying a DVC. Which resort to you guys recommend. We are looking at Saratoga Springs because we usually stay at POR and really like the area and the proximity to everything.

"Buy where you plan to stay (most often)."

As time goes on, the more popular resorts will more consistently sell-out before the 7 month point, making home resort priority essential. Personally, I like being able to walk into Epcot and D-MGM, so I prefer BWV (though BCV would be just as good AFAIC). We also love how peaceful it is on the shore of Bay Lake, so we also like VWL. We've stayed at OKW, which is in the same neighborhood as SSR, and stayed at the Disney Institute/Village Resort (which was where SSR is before SSR was built), and found that they were too far off the beaten track for our tastes, especially since we never spend that much time at Downtown Disney.

SSR will quit in 1/2054, all the others will stop 1/2042.

if you are young enough this might make a difference.

The first two replies cover the most important considerations. I would rank them first as to length of contract. If you want/need the extra years -- SSR is the only game in DVC.

If you are happy with the shorter contract then buy resale at the resort you want to stay at most often and be able to book over 7 months out. If you do not care where you stay or cannot book more than 7 months out you might as well own at the resort with the lowest annual dues -- OKW.

While we all have preferences -- style, themes, locations, amenities -- I have yet to find a WDW resort or DVC resort that did not deliver the magic and provide a great holiday for us.

Good luck.

If you like SSR and it's location, it's hard to beat the extra 12 years of ownership that come with it. Plus there's an incentive on it (15% off) right now.

Can't wait to welcome you home!

The choice of home resort is important in some circumstances, not so important in others. There are many options; the trick is to find the option that fits your family best.

Take your time, and research carefully. Good luck!

All the Resorts are great, cant be beat, Im a newbie (so to speak) so I looked at all the resorts, but staying at anyone, I just couldnt make up my mind, there all just to nice, so I went with the extra years, and did like the fact that SSR was new(furniture, pool buildings etc) whichever you choose you will love it. :cool1:

We bought this year and we are 31. I did lots of research, and OKW was just right for us. I loved it on our first trip home - really can't say enough about it! SSR is pretty, just not our "vacation style" - I grew up in Boston, DH in Michigan and he lived in Jamaica so OKW was the perfect tropical style. I love the point values for OKW also. You just need to decide what the most important aspects of your purchase are, and then you'll know which resort to call "Home". :earsboy:

When DH & I were buying (at OKW), we asked oursleves "If we could never stay anywhere else, could we always be happy here?" The answer was yes, so we bought at OKW.

Take a look at all the resorts, either online or in person. Where do you feel comfortable?

Think location. Where doi oyu liek to be? Do oyu liek to be in the "thick" of things?? If so, think BCV or BWV. Lovew the MK??? Maybe VWL is the spot for you. Spend lots of time at DTD??? Then SSR is the place to be. Like laid back, relaxed, Jimmy Buffet? Then go with OKW.

Consider the extra 12 years at SSR...would that be important to you & your family??? For DH & I, no kids. By the time our OKW contract expires, we'll be about 80 years old, so if I am still able to go to WDW, I'll worry about it then.

IMHO, every resort has its charms. But I tend to be pretty laid-back about travelling. If you are a person to whom view, location, room size etc really will impact your enjoyment of your vacation, thne choose carefully.

We bought at the BWV because my sister owns there. And it seems we always travel to Disney with them. So I wanted to be able to stay at the same place. And then I realized how perfect the choice was for us. Close to MGM and Epcot. Great choice of views and point levels for different rooms. Parking lot is far from the entrance which can be a bummer.

But like said previously everyone has different things that are important to them. Those are just mine.

I really depends on you. My DH and I wouldn't imagine staying anywhere but the BWV or BCV, our kids are grown and we spend most our time at Epcot/World Showcase. Really enjoy the ability to walk there and even walk to MGM. I think you really need to consider as SS grows ( with so many more members) , it's going to get harder and harder ( I believe) for folks to book at the 7month mark around the more popular dates. I had always thought I'd like to stay at SS and the Downtown Disney area until we were at WDW in October and I saw how 'institutional' the property looked compared to others, but's that just me. That was when I realized how fortunate we were to have our 'home' at the BWV/BCV.
