would like help with choosing a home hair coloring brand. I would like to use the temporary kind. I want to color it darker then it is now, I have brown hair with natural golden highlight, I hate my hair color. I like rich dark brown color.
Will coloring my hair make it more frizzy? And can I still get a perm if I choose to after it's colored? And how long does the color last if it is temporary?

The temporary ones don't last long. I like the L'Oreal brand of hair color. Try one of the temporary ones to see what color works best on your hair. Then after that, go for the permanent ones. The temporary ones will only last a washing or two. My natural hair color started to get so washed out looking, so I decided to start coloring my hair instead of perming it. I have VERY fine hair, so I permed for body. Now I don't need to perm, because the color gives it lots of body.

Oh, BTW, I too only wanted to darken and brighten my own color. It works great for me.

I use Loreal Colorspa and really like it. I color my hair about once a month - focusing on the roots. Many people think it is my natural color!

I agree with TigerBear been using L'Oreal products for years. I'm the same natural color as you described and use their "Caramel" color with great results. But don't look for ColorSpa anymore...........they renamed it "Moisture Actif." Exact same stuff, just new name to attract younger customers. Good luck!

They only time it should make your hair frizzy or crispy is if you were going lighter (like a bleach), otherwise, atleast in my experience hair dye (I always go darker than my natural color) makes my hair really soft and nice. I like the revlon high dimension, but i think it's pretty perminant.

tricia.

I have used high dimension for awhile because it only takes about 10 mins instead of up to 30 for some of the other products but I have been having trouble finding it lately. Have you???

The brand I used before that is L'oreal (not sure which kind though)

I used this the last time and it is the best I have found to cover my resistant grays (have some at the temples, not much elsewhere)

I was petrified (sp?) but it is really easy. I got it done in the salon for years but hated paying the price...

Start with a color that is close to what you have now so if you do mess up it won't be as noticable.

One time I wanted to go redder and I looked like Ronald McDonald  (or maybe this guy) so now when I want to change I go in slower steps....

heh! that happened to me too! we must have used the same color. :o

if you want to try something less permanent at first, try natural instincts, it lasts 25-28 shampoos. it makes your hair so soft and lots of body. you get a small tube of conditioner so that you can recondition once a week and it smells terrific! the pecan color really brings out the red highlights in my medium brown hair. lately i've seen alot of $2 off coupons, good deal!
