We will be a party of five women, including my 83 year old Mom. I would like to avoid extra walking for her whenever possible. We like the idea of the Kidani 2 bdrm with the three bathrooms, but wonder if traveling over to Jambo will be a big walking/ bus hassle and maybe it would be easier on my Mom if we just stay in Jambo. I would love to hear what others think---thanks !

If my mom was still alive she would be 84, and your question had me thinking what would she want? The extra bathroom is a big draw with 5 women on that trip. The only reason I would change to Jambo is if you plan on eating most of the time at Mara and Boma's. Otherwise, stay at Kidani and stock the kitchen with good coffee. My concern at Kidani would be how far will your mom have to walk from the room to the lobby/bus stop/car, THEN to Jambo.

Sorry if it's sounds a little jumbled. I'm thinking and typing at the same time imagining what my mom would say and do in that situation.

With my Mom, I would stay at Jambo, savannah view for sure. Mom would take the queen bed in the second bedroom and others would have the pull out. Mom likes eating at the Mara. However, you have 5 women and wouldn't it be nice to have the second queen bed in the second bedroom? If I had DF's with me, I would pick Kidani.

For this situation Jambo for sure.

how LUCKY YOU ARE TO STILL HAVE YOUR MOM ALIVE. I WOULD LOVE TO BE ABLE TO BRING MY MOM TO SIT OUT ON THE PATIO AND SEE THE ANIMALS. she WOULD OF LOVED THAT.

I THINK IF I WERE YOU I WOULD STAY IN JUMBO SINCE EVERYTHING IS RIGHT THEIR AND LESS WALKING IS INVOLVED.UNLESS YOU ARE EATING MOST OF YOUR MEALS IN THE ROOM. than MAYBE YOU COULD STAY IN KUDANI AND PUT IN A REQUEST "CLOSE TO POOL" OR IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE FAR FROM JUMBO MAYBE REQUEST"CLOSE TO JUMBO SIDE"

ANYWAY HAVE A GREAT TIME WHATEVER YOU DECIDE.:banana:

We are bringing my mother in June and are staying at Jambo House. I am happy that everything is easier there, with Mara, Boma and the gift shop easily accessible. The pool will be great for her too.

I think the answer to your question solely depends on whether or not you are going to use the CS option at Jambo House. If you plan on using it more than once, go with Jambo. Otherwise, stick with Kidani. I recently stayed at OKW and found it a pain to have to take a bus to the main building. Thank goodness we rarely needed to go there. This is similar to what you'll now experience at AKLV.

I just made a rez for my 65th b'day and asked if I could request being near an elevator, and she noted that cheerfully. We'll be in Jambo and from what I've read on several threads, I think that will be better for me. Am just starting to have mobility issues -- using a cane sometimes.

We took my mother and mother in law last May and we rented them each an ECV to help with their mobility issues. Both of them have difficulty walking for long periods of time due to arthritis and the ECVs made it much easier for them to get around. It might help to make your decision easier. Have a great trip!

I consider this more an issue of where you will be in either building rather than which building. Regardless of building you should ask for close to the lobby. That puts you as close as possible to anything you need to get to including pool, restaurants, busses. The walk from the rooms at the end of one of the Jambo wings to the lobby is very long. The walk from the end of one of the Kidani wings to its lobby will be even significantly longer (it will be greater than 1/4 mile).

And for meccllap above -- asking for close to the elevator does not do the trick. That is because they have multiple elevator areas. At Jambo, you have a set near the lobby but then you have sets a little more than half way down each wing and from those elevators to the lobby is still a long walk.

When you make the ressie, tell them that you have an elderly person with you in addition to requesting near the elevator/lobby. They will make note of it. You will probably get your request.

We had my 84 yo parents with us in January at SSR, and I told them when I made the ressie. We got 1st floor near the bus stop.:thumbsup2 I ended up renting a car anyway, as we found that worked MUCH better for us. My dad has a handicapped placard, so parking everywhere was as close as possible.
