Which deluxe resort is better?

We loved the Yacht Club, and stayed at the Poly last year. Totally different themes, but both are great.

The Pros of staying at the YC:
Close to MGM/Epcot
Stormalong Bay
More to do at night (Boardwalk)

The Poly has the monorail wich is a major plus, but you can not go wrong with either.

We've stayed at the YC three times and the Poly once, so I guess it's obvious which we prefer! Don't get me wrong -- the Poly is very nice. We like the YC location better b/c you're adjacent to two parks. We spend a lot of time at both MGM and Epcot and eat many of our meals in world Showcase. We also are big fans of the YC pool. DH and I enjoy hot tubs, and you don't have that option at the Poly. The YC also just feels more luxurious to us, and when we're on vacation, we like luxury!

I prefer the Beach Club to the Poly. I loved the monorail option at the Poly, as well as the view of MK from the pool - very nice for watching the fireworks at night.
But, the Beach Club was more my style. It was newer & cleaner feeling. The housekeeping was better. The Poly was damp & had an underlying odor to it that I didn't care for. Stormalong Bay was fantastic - walking around the lake in the morning & watching the ducks & other birds was wonderful. Wandering into the Boardwalk Bakery for pastry & coffee, then sitting on our patio & reading the paper was delightful. We could even see Illuminations from our patio.
We were there during F&WF, so being able to walk in & out of WS was a big benefit.

I would go back to the BC in a heartbeat, whereas I'd have to get a really cheap rate to consider going back to the Poly again.

I have only stayed at the Poly - but hubby has been at the BC for conferences, etc. His impression was the BC was just a hotel room. He didn't use the pool, so cannot comment on that. We do not spend much time at all at Epcot, so the location there is bad for us, too.

I have an idea - just go to all of them! Put the names in a hat and draw one for this stay - then pick from the other two for your next one!!

Yeah - that would work!!!!!!

Welcome to the DIS, CaptainNemo!

Both the Poly and the Yacht and Beach Club are fantastic resorts, each with their own pros and cons. Which resort will work out best for you really depends on your family, and what you do during your trip.

If you go to Epcot and MGM alot, the Yacht or Beach Club would be better. You can walk or take a boat to both of these parks from the Yacht & Beach Club.

If you have young kids, and are planning on spending lots of time at the Magic Kingdom, the Polynesian would be a better choice. It's a quick monorail or boat ride to the Magic Kingdom. You can also walk to the Epcot monorail at the Ticket & Transportation Center, so the trip to Epcot can be pretty easy as well.

The pool at the Yacht & Beach Club is really something else. It has an awesome slide, a lazy river section, and is beautifully landscaped.

The pool at the Poly is nice, too. It's a zero entry pool, and the beach is steps away.

In my opinion, the Poly has better dining options inside the resort, but the Yacht & Beach Club has more dining options within walking distance of the resort.

I think you'd be happy at either resort. I'd suggest figuring out which parks you are most likely to visit the most, and then decide based on the location.

I would also look at the dinning options available at each location.

We just got back from the Beach Club and really loved it. It was our first trip to WDW. My kids are older and acustomed to being in nice restaraunts. I met a woman on the bus who had several young children. She complained that there were no gooe dinning options for her kids at the BC.

Based on the ages of everyone in your party, and the type of dinning you like to do, I would check out the dinning options that are in close proximity to the resort and see if they are a good match for your group.

Being in a lovely resort with great pool won't be enjoyable, if mealtimes become a real hassle.

But...

The Polynesian is far more laid back and relaxed. In my humble opinion, YC & BC seemed a tad stuffy. The pools are both cool, but I'd give the nod to the Poly as you can be in the pool in the evening and watch portions of wishes and see the castle change colors.

The food is superior at the Poly, save for Beaches and Cream which is terrific.

Have fun.

Hi,

Well Karen covered most of the points that I would have. I just want to put my vote in for how fantastic the YC is. If you're going with just adults, I might choose the YC, and choose the Poly with kids (unless you have pool obsessed kids, then go YC!). Also, whichever you choose, remember to reserve some time in your trip plan to visit the other resort(s)!! That is the best way to get a feel for them. And, you can also split your stay between differnent resorts!

Split your stay between Poly and BC/YC and then you don't have to decide! THe BC is a bit more laid back than the YC, but they share the same pool. All rooms at the YC have balconies or patios.

Stayed at both Poly and YC. Poly is one of my favs. I love the laid back tropical atmosphere. Also, some of the long houses have larger rooms than the YC/BC. I agree with other posters that it depends on the age of your children, if there are children, and your preference for parks. Both are fantastic resorts and you will have a great time wherever you stay. ::MinnieMo

Thank you 4 the info.!!!!
We have decided to split our stay at the YC and the Poly. We like the monorail feature of the Poly and their cool pool. The pool at the YC also seems nice. Maybe we can spend 3 days at the Poly and 4 at the YC. My DN would love it!!!!! :D :boat:
