only 92 days to go now and Christmas has come and gone so we are starting to fine tune our planning

I believe that there is a credit card available which does not make an admin charge for overseas transactions does anyone know which one it is?

We will take US $ trav. chqs and some cash and also credit card

I have mad a couple of ADRs and just hope to make one more for Mickey's backyard bbq has anyone ever been to this and was it fun?

It's the Nationwide credit card you're thinking of - they don't charge you anything as a foreign currency transaction fee, and it's one of the easiest ways of getting the most $ for your money.

You can apply online at:-
http://www.nationwide.co.uk/creditcard/default.htm

You can also open a Nationwide Flex Account which is a current account - this also doesn't charge you any fee, and you can withdraw $ cash from an ATM.

Sorry - can't help with Mickey's Backyard BBQ, but I'm sure someone can!

It's Nationwide that don't charge! Also they don't charge if you use them in the ATM's either! Excellent service IMHO!

Sorry I should have said they don't charge for using your flex-account card in the ATM - sorry!

Hi

We have been to Mickeys BBQ twice admittedly it was 1996 and 1998. We really enjoyed it, although the second time we went we didnt enjoy it as much. I felt it was for kids and the characters dancing with the children was fab. The kids loved it. Teaching kids to line dance etc....

The food was average. Lots of food they would never run out and lots of drinks in ice all over the venue.

The seating arrangements are first come first served and there is no particular seating request its fight among the pigeons really. Both times we sat at the rear and could hardly see the dance floor, which in itself made us dance. You share long wooden bench tables.

If you havent been before and you have children its worth a visit. We plan to go back again, when the boys are older but only for the childrens sake really.

Hope this helps

DH used his credit card when we were in Orlando last year (Nat West Mastercard) and there was no charge made for that either. We actually got a very good exchange rate with it aswell.

Our CC's and debit cards with HSBC Premier Account are completely free of any charges abroad.

I recommend the HSBC premier account too. It provides travel insurance and emergency servies as well as free cash withdrawals, which is handy as a back-up when overseas. They offer commission free currency as well, but I have always found better rates elsewhere. We often use Platinum Amex as well, as I think their overseas security and service is unbeatable.

Another vote for the Nationwide Credit and Debit cards.

Not many CCs charge explicitely (except for taking money out the ATMs) but when I last looked Nationwide was the only one that doesn't have a charge hidden in the exchange rate. You need to dig into the charges section of the terms and conditions but it's normally about 2.75% - this will still give a better rate than you'll get in a travel agents.

Most Debit cards have an explicit charge for taking money out the ATMs abroad and a charge hidden in the exchange rate - Nationwide has neither of these on the Flexaccount.

Just checked the HSBC Premier Account out of interest.

It has an 'exchange rate adjustment' of 'up to 2.75%' hidden in the exchange rate - I think it's wrong they advertise it as being free of fees on their web-site.

I guess they would say it's not a fee but an adjustment. To use their words it's 'to cover handling costs and any card processing fees' - sounds like a fee to me.

It annoys me too that lots of companies try to hide the charges - the worst are the ones that build the 2.5% into the exchange rate you get - by the time you get home and have your statement, you don't necessarily know what the exchange rate was weeks before, and therefore, it's not obvious you have been charged. I honestly didn't even realise I was being charged for years because of this. I hate to think how much I could saved if I had realised.

That was one of the reasons I applied for the Nationwide flex account and their Visa. I don't see why I should have to pay more for using my cards abroad! I didn't realise I did pay more till I saw an ad for the Nationwide then checked with my normal Visa card.
