Which board to announce expected cancellation?

I will likely be canceling an early Dec reservation by early Nov. Which board is used for discussing the details (Resort, Unit type, Dates) so another might line up their waitlist accordingly?

No such place. No one gets any say in their wait list. It's whoever is at the top of the list. It's not like trying to grab dining reservations that someone is canceling.

But given the way we've seen the waitlist working (or not working) -- prior coordination might help someone pick up that cancellation by stalking inventory at just the right time?

I wouldn't be happy if I was waiting months for a waitlist and found out people were trying this.

It is fairly commonplace on other boards. I thought I had read that DisBoards had a specific place for such discussions.

I totally understand, but I had a waitlist for a few weeks and today I saw the exact date I had been waiting for become available . . . and stayed available for quite awhile until I grabbed it. So much for the effectiveness of waitlists with all this on-line booking fever . . . of which I have a problem with myself. ;)

That being said, I still think it would be really hard to coordinate the exact time to grab this early December booking when you cancel it. Too many variables . . .

I think it is a nice gesture. We DVC DIS'ers make up less than 1/10th of 1% of the DVC membership (probably a whole lot less than that). Why not give a fellow DIS'er a heads-up. It should be DVC's responsibility to shore up any weaknesses in their system. Why, it would almost be un-American to not try to find a way to "work the system". That's just good ole' American ingenuity.

I think that the likelihood of a DVC member who frequents these DISboards and has a trip planned with a waitlist at the exact resort, for the exact room type, at the exact time that another DIS'er is planning on canceling a planned trip is so unlikely that it probably does not matter if this kind of thing takes place. And hey, if it works out for someone . . . WOW! No one is really going to know that it happened anyway. The DVC waitlist process does not seem to be well-understood and probably never will be.

Heck, I released a 7 day reservation at OKW in an HH studio last week, and when I went back to see if it was still available an hour later . . . poof! . . . it was gone.

Don't get me wrong . . . I'm not advocating a separate board/thread for transferring reservations via cancellation; but I really think that this kind of activity has little chance of working, little chance of affecting the current wait list system, and it would be neat to see it work once in awhile! Being a Disney addict should have some perks!!

I had 6 nights in a studio at VGC last month, 9/22-9/27. About 3 months before our trip we found out that the first Halloween party was 9/28. Of course, 9/28 was soldout. So I got on the waitlist. I checked online pretty often to see if it opened up but it didn't. We paid for a room at Paradise Pier. It would be sad to find out that someone jumped ahead of me through a thread here on DIS, using the "American way" of working the system. :sad1:

Oh please.

Blame Disney's IT if that happened.

Waitlists seem to all clear at a certain time. If they appear online and someone snags it beforehand, no one is "working the system."

Actually there is no board, members are encouraged to PM their cancelation details directly to me before calling MS. I will then review the reservation, see if it's doable :beach:, and if not release it back to you :thumbsup2.

I wasn't referring to it appearing online. I was referring to the suggestion of a thread on this board to list cancellations so that another DIS board member could coordinate to grab it before it hits the waitlist. The post I quoted said: Why, it would almost be un-American to not try to find a way to "work the system". That's just good ole' American ingenuity.

Of course, it's up the owners of the board if they would allow such a thread. It's different than the dining because there is no wait list for dining.

i cancelled SSR around NYE a while back and checked online immediately after confirming cancel (have 2 computers side by side here) to see what would happen to that week. but only 2 of those 7 days showed up as available so some waitlists must have been fulfilled instantly. gone within seconds. so as nice as it would be to hand off a reservation, we can't control it once it's out of our hands.

It would be way to easy for such a thread to turn into a Reservation for Rent thread. Think about it. Someone would post, "I'm going to canel my reservation for December 20th to 27th." What would stop someone from PMing saying they'd pay them to rent the reservation? For that reason, I doubt there would ever be such a thread on the DIS.

::yes:: What Chuck said..

I have a vacation planned at that time and had to settle with what was available. I have a waitlist out there and I know there can be glitches. So any help would be apprechiated.

I think we should have a thread for that topic.

Just cancelled: Treehouse, 12/8-12/15. Sigh. I was delighted back in January to book that stay before the point reallocation hit. Fed Jury duty, however, suggests I won't be going. :(
