I signed up the whole family to make kitty beds for the animal shelter. I had NO idea what I was getting myself into! They required 10 per person, with a fleece top, cotton backing, and double layer of batting, sewn, turned right-side-out, reinforced and quilted, size 20 x 30, and I had to supply the materials. Since it did not turn out to be an activity that was suitable for my 7- and 9-year-olds, and since my dh does not know how to sew, I ended up doing all of the labor. My oldest dd helped me scout out materials and friends/family members donated a lot as well. It actually ended up being kind of fun because so many people had an interest in the outcome! It was amazing how so many became inspired to help out even though they couldn't help with the construction. It made us all feel so good when we drove to the shelter to turn in our beds. My girls now want to continue doing things for the shelter, but I don't think I'll be repeating my whirlwind week of kitty bed sewing any time soon
Here is a picture of dd with the finished product:
And a really freaky one with our kitten included...his eyes are scary!!!
