Where's the best place to buy dog sweaters or coats?

I usually order my pet supplies from JB Pet Supplies, but I hesitate with a sweater or coat because I have no idea what size he wears. Graham is a beagle, but he's only 5 months old. He's got a longish body, but skinny.
He is also the biggest baby when it comes to the weather. If it goes below 60 degrees he's shivering.

Is Pet Smart reasonable for dog sweaters and coats or should I go to Walmart? The only thing is he can't try them on in Walmart - do you think they'd take them back if it didn't fit?

I would go to Walmart. I'm sure they would take back the sweater if it doesn't fit you dog. I find the pet stores are quite pricey when it comes to the pet clothing. I have a 3 lb. chihuahua and sweaters for her at the pet stores are $25 and up. For a sweater the size of a man's large winter glove, I am not paying that much for. At Walmart I can get her a nice sweater for around $10. Also, it just occurred to me, that the Dollar Tree carries pet sweaters. Maybe you could get one for a a dollar, since your dog is only five months, and will continue to grow. No sense buying one now and having to buy one again in a couple months cause Graham will continue to grow and fill out. It will also give you an inexpensive opportunity to see if he will even wear a sweater. Some dogs hate them and won't walk or move if it's on them.

I just bought my Yorkiepoo, who is 17lbs. a squall coat from lands end. They are the BEST dog coats. They are waterproof and warm and he can't get it off!! I just bought a few days ago for $16.99 plus free shipping and if doesn't fit you can return it to Sears. I hate wasting my money on ones that fall apart. I would rather pay a few more dollars for one that is going to last for years and keep my dog really warm!

PetEdge.com has reasonable prices and great selections--never ordered sweater or coats, but have ordered other items.

They are having a 80% fall clearance right now and have frequent discounts. They have an outlet store in MA, too.

if you can sew, what about looking at the fabric store? I have found books at the library with patterns for costumes, what about adapting one for a cold weather item. I also made one (fleece jacket) for our chihuahua. She freezes in the winter for potty time. She hates the clothes but hates the cold more.

I often see them on clearance at Target. But I don't have a dog so I really don't know where the best place is. I did want to say though, just get an inexpensive one first. Back when I had my dog, I bought him a really cute Seahawks sweater. He was a small dog and we lived in a cold climate. . he shivered like your dog. BUT he wasn't having anything to do with that sweater!!! You should have seen him fighting to get that thing off, and then he'd run all over the house "killing" it once he did. I never did get him to wear it. . .he just chewed it up. He HATED that thing! On the other hand, I bought him some little shoes that he could wear in the snow. He acted a little weird with them at first, but he actually liked them. Go figure.

Well, they didn't have any coats at Walmart yet, so I went for a sweater - it's so cute, brown, orange and yellow stripes. Looked like candy corn. All I could think of was Sponge Bob's "Striped Sweater" song! But alas, even though he is a skinny little guy this sweater did not fit right, so it's going back. I'll watch for coupons for JB Pets or Petsmart and buy him a coat instead.

Guess what? I found a coat for Graham on the Lands End website - they were on sale for $16.99 and I had a code for free shipping. It looks great and I splurged and had it monogrammed.

Yes, they are great coats. As you can see from my above post. We received ours two days ago, and Cooper has been it wearing everyday, since it hasn't stopped raining here in 3 days. His coats is great and totally waterproof. You won't be disappointed with this coat they are the best I have purchased!!!

I just hope I ordered it big enough. I got a medium because they gave a Beagle as the example of what breed dog would wear a medium and he's not full grown yet. I hope I shouldn't have gotten a large. I'm thinking since it's better quality that a medium will fit better, at least I hope so! Can't wait until it comes...and it's been raining here all week too. I haven't resorted to building an ark yet though.

I buy alot of my dog's clothes at Target. They have them on clearance alot of the time. Mine loves to wear t-shirts and they have those in the $1 section in the front of the store. I also buy some at PetSmart when they are on clearance. They always have some on sale especially at the end of the season or after a holiday.
