Or I should say where HAVE you stayed?

We have been to both places several times but I hate to say we get pretty 'fixed' in where we have landed every time.

Normally we stay at the Holiday Inn Express (Northeast) (3x) in Rapid City but have also stayed at Country Inn & Suites & Howard Johnson Express (not sure if still there). I like to stay on the NE corner of town as we have already driving 12 hours to get there!! At this point in time HIE is running $99.95 (w/o tax). I looked there first as I know we can walk to food & not have to pack back in the car & start driving. (sun night). I think Americinn is $87 but not sure what is now located within walking distance for food.

In Deadwood we have only stayed at Holiday Inn Express (2 or 3 x)- currently running $104.99 (M/T/Wed). I tried AmericInn but it is evidently no longer there (I think it is Cadillac Jacks) & the new listings for CJ's don't include breakfast that I can see.

So I'm looking for any suggestions you may have experienced in both RC & Deadwood. What did you like, what didn't you like?

My son goes to SDSM&T and we've stayed in RC several times. I REALLY enjoyed our stay at the Grandstay Residential Suites. This would be my first pick every time, very clean and very spacious suites and quite reasonable. However, DH earns Carlson Club points, so we stay at the Country Inn & Suites by Carlson whenever he's earned free nights. It was decent enough...I just liked the Grandstay more.

Grandstay looks nice - I had ignored it at first because the 'white southern style' looked funky in the pics I saw. But price is right in line - I think it came out at $92 for a 2 queen room. (We always do 2Q as we both have back issues - that way there is always a different bed in the room if the first one bothers one of us).

Probably won't want to leave if we select that one!!! (I know the HIEx is nice in Deadwood but we had a suite room the last time - this time will be a standard - sigh).

I need to ponder a bit more.......
