Where would you love to be living in your retirement years?

If family weren't a consideration, I'd move to Europe, probably Paris. I have friends who retired there and they really love the ex-pat community in and around the city.

More realistically, I'd move back to the Boston or southern Maine area. It's where I grew up, where my remaining family lives; I still think of it as home. However, this would be greatly dependent on where DD ends up; I'd never want to be too far from her.

In all reality, we'll probably stay here. DH has one of those jobs where he can tinker at it forever, as well as being involved in a company. I don't particularly love where we live, but I'm probably stuck here.

We would like to retire to Hilton Head Island, SC.
Check out the medical situation there before you do. Facts of life are that with age sometimes comes medical issues. That's what happened to friends of ours. They were sure they wanted to retire on HHI until one of them had heart issues just a few years before retirement. That's when they learned the reality of the health system there. When they retired, they ended up in Charleston.
We seriously considered retirement on HHI also, but almost 10 years into retirement, we're not there, just visiting the Disney resort there a lot.

Somewhere it is not too hot and not too cold would be perfect (if such a place exists)... I am guessing I will stay right where I am where it is too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer :rotfl2:
