Where to vacation with kids OTHER than Disney?

I used to live in Chicago. Now theres a great place to visit! Youve got the zoos, the aquarium, the science and natural history museums, the Sears Tower, Water Tower, State St, the lake, art museum, the parks, how about a Cubs game or a sunset boat tour on the river and to the lake to watch the lights come on..........

We used to vacation in Door Co. as well. I forgot about that, but loved it. I went to Michigan State and there are many pretty places to visit in MI along the lake.

We also vacationed often to Lake Lawn Lodge near Lake Geneva. I know its still there as Ive looked at their website.

St Louis is nice, Springfield IL (home of Abe Lincoln), Indianapolis (great kids museum, and just outside is a farm you can tour). We rented an rv and toured out west many times-Jackson Hole, Pikes Peak, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Yosemite, Mt Rushmore, Badlands, 4 corners. We spent two vacations near Estes Park CO at the YMCA of the Rockies (that was a fun place). Aspen and the surrounding area is pretty. Weve gone to CA and toured up and down the coast there. Out east youve got Boston, Plymouth, Cape Cod, the Hamptons, NYC, Finger Lakes in NY, Philly (Seasame Street Place is not far from there), VA beach. My dad lives in Hilton Head so we go there once a month. He also has a place in Lake Lure NC (Blue Ridge Mtns area) which is very scenic. We took my son on a train ride near Cherokee NC to see the fall colors. These might be out of your budget, but weve gone to Maui several times (Oahu and the other islands on a cruise) and did a train/cruise trip through Alaska which was goregous.

Lately weve gotten back into cruising (my family did a lot of cruising when I was a teen through college) and go over the holidays. Weve gone all over the Caribbean and just did a Panama Canal cruise last year. Our son loves to cruise, especially now since hes old enough to join the kids club. He started cruising at 11 mos, our daughter at 5 mos. Its a great way to see the islands and then you can always take a trip to your favorite ones for more exploring! You can even do a weekend cruise to the Bahamas to try it out.
