Where to Vacation In Winter

Okay- middle of February..... Where do you vacation that is not in Florida. Also, don't ski and not really into hiking or anything like that in the bitter cold. What area's have fun stuff to do anyhow? Any great little winter towns? Any tourist cities that are alive in during winter???

That's an easy one. Ottawa is a great city to visit anytime but Winterfest is particularly cool. There's also some nice musuems on both the Ottawa and Hull sides of the river. Montreal is another option but I like Ottawa's smaller size. It's a city without being overwhelming.

I hadn't really thought of going further up north. But that might not be a bad idea.

To Floridians, Gatlinburg is nice in winter, especially if you go there right after Christmas when decorations are still up for Winterfest.

Lights in Gatlinburg go from Nov 1 - Valentines Day weekend!

Most shops/attractions are open year round - with reduced hours - rates for hotels/etc are WAY cheap then... but I would stay away from places too far off the main roads - it does snow - a few times a year and usually during Jan/Feb. Some of the roads with cabins/chalets will be tough to get into/out of if it's a snow day !

We've been to Gaitlinburg/Pigeon Forge in the spring and summer. This was actually something we talked about. However, is everything pretty much up and running in the winter. This would be President's Day Week btw. It's the only time to go- as DS is off school then. He's missed too much time this year w/ his broken leg to take off even an extra day. So, we have to go then.

We usually go the early part of January and everything has been up and running and as another poster pointed out....rates really are very low! We got a fabulous motel room for a pittance! We also like that the crowds are way down and you don't have to stand outside in heat waiting for a table at restaurants. Mostly, we find it really beautiful at this time of year, especially if there's snow.
