Okay, now I'm in the planning stages of my first trip to FW in my new truck camper. It's a 23 1/2 hour drive from home to WDW, so I guess I better plan on stopping overnight along the way. Can anyone recommend some good campgrounds along the route from Boston to FW? I was thinking somewhere in NC should be halfway...does anyone have a favorite place to stop there? I'll be doing all the driving, so I don't think I can drive more than 12 hours a day.

it took us 2 1/2 days to get there from MA. but we had a 2 1/2 year old and issues with our trailer. Ill look up where we stayed....

There's a KOA in Smithfield, NC, right of I95 that's pretty nice. From there it's about 11 hours to WDW. Don't know how long it will take you to get here from MA.

It is up to you but we don't usually stop in a campground for a night. We spend all the time traveling that we can and when we are ready to crash we find a nice truck stop and go to bed. Then we get up and eat breakfast and get back on the road. I don't want to take the extra time hooking up and unhooking for one night!

http://www.flyingj.com/highway/locations/us-map.html here is a map of the different Flying J truck stops. We usually try to find them or the Petro's. They have good food and a safe place to park.

Usually their fuel is cheaper too. They offer a rewards card that gets you $.01 off a gallon of gas. It might be worth signing up for.

Good Luck!

You know, I hadn't considered a truck stop...I'll have to think about that one, it might work out pretty well, with a minimum of missed driving time. Although, we might like a slightly longer break, in order to relax from the road for a while...have to think this one over. Thanks for the suggestion!

UrsulasShadow, your truck camper is set up perfect for stopping like that. :thumbsup2 You can stop and go in it without too much setting up. We picked the TT we have for that reason also.

I have seen people sitting in thier chairs out by thier camper at truck stops. I know they like the business and don't mind as long as you don't set up camp for days. Maybe you can get a nice parking place near the grass! :woohoo:

We plan on doing this at the end of the month when we go to Canada. We are 5 hours away but instead of leaving that morning, we will leave after work and stop at a Flying J in Buffalo for the night. Then we only have a 45 minute drive on over in the morning. :dance3:

just returned from fw i stayed at the smithfield koa very nice and clean.most campgrounds off 95 are fine most open all year just check good sam web site.if you have kids better plan some extra time will make for a better trip.we had a ball.

We did both on our trip from MA a few years ago towing our TT.

On the way down we stopped at the campground at "South of the Border". It was nice - clean, cheap ($18), drive through sites, full hookup (we just needed the elec. for the AC, lol), and right off the highway.

On the way home we did Flying J's whenever we needed to stop.

WOW!!! That is cheap! Well worth it for the AC for the night! We were looking forward to stopping there on the way down again! (Need a new spoon holder)

Thanks a lot for the info!
