Where to stay?

Due to the number of folks getting sick on DCL, we (me, DW and DS8) have decided to cancel our planned 3 day cruise in February. We already have reservations off-site for part of the week, but want to stay at one of the WDW deluxe resorts for a couple of days. We have been to Orlando many times, but have never stayed at WDW, so I'm looking for opinions on where you think we should stay (and why).

Taking into consideration of your DS8, if you think you're going to spend most of your time at Magic Kingdom, I would recommend The Contemporary. The monorail access is great and its just a short ride or walk to the park. The Wilderness Lodge would probably be good for kids too. It is a short boat ride away to MK.

If EPCOT or MGM is your main destination, I've heard good things about The Boardwalk and The Beach Club. The Animal Kingdom Lodge would be good for AKL visits, especially if you would enjoy seeing the exotic animals outside your room.

I would personally choose The Contemporary, but it really depends on what types of things you and your family enjoy the most!

Disnee Dad Says.....................................There are many great places to stay at WDW. We love DIXIE LANDINGS, now known as PO Riverside. AKL with a savannah view was wonderful. The room was small, but see animals, some just 20 yards away, and more within 200 yards, wow!
IMHO if I had to pick a deluxe I would go with AKL, and if I wanted the best value I would go to my three time choice for value, DIXIE LANDINGS !

One thing to think about - people aren't getting sick on DCL because of the ship - they're just catching the virus from other people who were sick when they got on the ship! It is going around now - especially in Florida. My brother and his family live in Ft. Myers, and they just had it last week - and they haven't been on a cruise. My travel agent also lives in Florida, mid-state, and he's just getting over Norwalk virus - and he hasn't been on a cruise either. The clinics are full of people getting it. It's just a stomach flu - a bad one for sure - but it only lasts a couple of days.

I wouldn't cancel a cruise, just because people on the cruise are sick. You will run across sick people in the resorts too.

Normally, with a child that age, I would suggest the Yacht or Beach Club, because of Stormalong Bay, but it will be closed for rehab. So, my second suggestion would be the Polynesian. We were so impressed with the pool, the beach, the atmosphere, the restaurants and the staff. Although we haven't stayed there it is on the very short list of places we would definitely like to check out! You can't beat the convenience of the monorail, and the short walk to the TTC. Also, if you desire an "adult's" night out, the Neverland Club is a hit with the younger set, and is right there!

Also, make sure that you arrive for your stay during value season... there is a SIGNIFICANT difference between the prices. If you do, then you will be able to take advantage of those wonderful rates your entire stay, as long as you don't change resorts.

Another thing... as someone else said.... don't cancel your cruise due to the virus... it is everywhere, and no one is immune. You are just as likely to get it at home as you are going on the cruise. Whatever you decide, have a great time... and here's wishing good health!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.... I have asked Dreams Unlimited to give me a quote at the Contemporary and the Yacht Club.

While we definitely agree that you can catch just about anything by going to work, school, shopping, etc. we decided we really didn't want to spend $2300 on a gamble that one (or all of us) won't get sick. I can't imagine being forced to stay in a cruise ship cabin for any long length of time. If I'm going to be sick, I would prefer more comfortable/convenient surroundings.

We did cancel this morning and had to deal with a really obnoxious CM at DCL (see my thread on the DCL board).
