I was wondering if someone can tell me what are the hotels that are located in the magic kingdom? My wife and i are planning a trip and we do not want to rent a car. I understand there are very nice hotels located right in the park. Does that mean you can walk to the major attractions??

We have never been there before and are not quite sure how it all works. Since we want it all to be convenient, we don't want to stay anywhere outside the park

any suggestions on how to teach this newbie the ways of WDW would be much appreciated

thanks!

Well, I suggest reading some of the great posts from others to start with.

visit the main website www.disneyworld.com and click "Resorts"
Other websites:

www.mousesavers.com
www.dreamsunlimitedtravel.com
www.tourguidemike.com
www.wdwinfo.com

Go to your local book store and pick up The Passporter for Walt Disney World
Or The UnOfficial Guide

value resorts
All Stars (there are 3 themed resorts) cheapest
Pop Century - new value resort- same pricing as All Stars

Moderate Resorts
Carribean Beach Resort -CBR
Corronado Springs-CS
Port Orleans (Riverside or French Quarter)- Sister resorts

Delux
Wilderness Lodge-WL
Grand Floridian-GF
Contemporary-CR
Polynesian-Poly
Boardwalk Inn-BWI
Beach Club/Yacht Club
Animal Kingdom Lodge-AKL

You might want to book through Dreams Unlimited, there are no fees and they can walk you through everything.

Only the Polyn, GF and Cont are on the monrail. these plus WL are the MK resorts. you can get to the MK and Epcot on the monrail from these resorts.

BW, BC and YC (plus D/S non WDw resorts) - you can walk or boat to Epcot and Studios.

I agree, there are many websites out there that can help you. I just went on disneyworld.com and ran a search for maps and it said that the property is 44 square miles with 23 resorts. I would suggest taking a look at the maps first. Then you will get an idea of the expanse nature of the property. None of the theme parks have resorts within them. Some resorts are closer than others, but the price is certainly commensarate (sp?) with that proximity. All the resorts (on disney property) have some sort of transportation to the parks, so there would be no need for a car if you do not wish to rent one. First I would determine what I was willing to pay for accomodations, then try to find a resort within your price range with the ammenities you are looking for.

Here are some informational places to start:

www.disneyworld.com
www.allearsnet.com
www.wdwinfo.com

Good luck, and you will certainly find all the information you need from the disboards. I have been going to WDW since 1978 and have learned new things everyday here on the DIS. :grouphug:

Walt Disney World encompasses something like 40 square miles. It has 4 major theme parks The Magic Kingdom, Epcot, MGM Studios, and The Animal Kingdom. There are 2 water parks Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. Downtown Disney has the marketplace, Pleasure Island, Disney Quest and Cirque Du Solei. There are many hotels inside Walt Disney World that range from value to deluxe. All of the Disney hotels have bus, or boat, or monorail transportation to the different areas of the world. You will not need a car.

I would recommend that you pick up a guide book to Walt Disney World at your local bookstore or library, to get a good overview. A good book is The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World. Once you narrow down a budget, some parks, activities, and restaurants that you would like to try, it will help you choose your resort hotel in Walt Disney World.

If you have any questions please post them. We are all happy to help and love Walt Disney World. Enjoy planning your first magical vacation to see the Mouse. ::MickeyMo

Welcome to the DIS! Here's my suggestions: Walk...no, run to your nearest bookstore & get the latest copy of The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World. Then, frequent this website. Have fun!
