Where to stay on the way (East Coast)

Thanks for the tip on Richmond Hill. That's cool that it's the town owned by Henry Ford and it's right near his mansion and plantation. Unfortunately, for the dates we will be there, the rate is $80/night. A little too steep just to sleep ;)

However, I did find the Country Inns & Suites website that everyone has been mentioning and, for our dates, the rate is $59.00 at the internet saver rate. So far, it looks to be the cutest and most recommended. So right now, that one is in the lead. Just trying to figure out if we'd be better off reserving now at the $59.00 rate or waiting and booking with the state travel book coupons once we are on our way. Any suggestions?

I think the state coupon rate is $59. The only thing with Savannah is that you're further north from wdw than I thought you wanted to be, for your drive the next day. For ease of getting on/off the interstate, I would choose Kingsland over Jacksonville. The exits past the airport where you could safely stay would be probably 30 min past the airport, in much more congested areas. Also Kingsland has more restaurants (fast food and otherwise) at the exit than you will find at, say the Airport exit in Jax. NO fast food, just a few convenience stores, a Denny's and Waffle House at the Airport exit in Jax. I actually stayed at the airport exit when I came back from Miami this past week, got up and drove to the Kingsland exit to eat/gas up the car! I just couldn't go any further when I got to the Airport - I had been driving since Miami !!

Kingsland does come up on Priceline with hotels up to a 2 1/2 star. You can pretty much figure out which hotel(s) that likely is by seeing what is at the intersate exit in that city.

I looked at www.betterbidding.com and Kingsland isn't listed. Is it ever possible that Priceline will give you a hotel in the vicinity of the selected place? I know you can see amenities on Hotwire- maybe I'll check that. Some of the places I looked at were fairly decent and I think had 3 diamonds from AAA so I don't know what would make Priceline give them 2 1/2 stars. I'm nervous to venture into the unknown :) I'm going to go check Hotwire.
