We are planning to take my 6 yr old niece on her 1st WDW stay. My family of 4 usually stay @ Pop and think that it would be the perfect place for her age and her 1st stay.
Problem is Pop only sleeps 4. To have a connecting room @ Pop would push the cost up about 1200, to stay @ ASM would push us up 1300 and staying at Port Orleans would push us up 700, but it's not whimsical and kiddie.

We know it's not going to be free but we're just adding a small 6 yr old.

Has anyone else had this issue? I'm open for any suggestions.

Please forgive me if I'm wrong about this - When I was looking into it last year, I know at least one of the value hotels had a suite (2 rooms and 1 bathroom) and I think it was Allstars Music.

I think you pretty much outlined your options very well. The positives for paying the extra would be 2 bathrooms (at the connecting at POP or the ASM familue suite) and a kitchen area (in the family suite). If you really think that POP is the perfect place and would not be as happy anywhere else - I think you've found your own decision - just go with the 2 rooms there.

Honestly though, I wouldn't worry too much about themeing ruining a 6 year old's first trip. She will be so delighted with EVERYTHING - seeing the castle for the first time, etc. that NOTHING could dampen her vacation. So go with whatever works best for the whole.

Have you considered staying offsite in a condo. You can get a 3 bedroom condo for way less than staying on site in a normal room never mind a suite. There are also some really nice themed condos that would fit your whimsical and kiddie requirements. Just a thought.
