We just got back from 8 nights at AKV....loved it! I loved this resort before it was DVC, now I love it even more! My girls (4 and 2) had a great time in the pool (our 4 year old went nuts for the water slide!) and with all of the wonderful activities. We are looking to go back next January, and we thought we might want to try a resort that is closer to MK or Epcot one time before we have to go during school holidays. Does VWL or BC offer the same type of activities for children that AKV does? They had all kinds of free activities for the little ones at AKV.

I love the theming of VWL and the idea of being so close to MK. I think the BC is a beautiful resort and I love the idea of being able to walk to Epcot. The pool area sounds like it might be better for older children. Our girls will be almost 6 and 3.

Thank you for your help!

We just returned from a stay at the Wilderness Lodge Villas over Martin Luther King weekend and absolutely loved it. The Whispering Canyon restaurant was excellent, the rooms were a dream, the fitness center was exceptional, the location to the Magic Kingdom couldn't be beat, and the theming was unbelievable. I highly recommend this DVC resort for children. Our 11 month old had a blast! I'm not sure what type of activities are offered but I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

We go very often so we're always planning a trip. Its very unusual for us to be working on only the next trip. We're typically thinking the next 2-3 trips ahead.

Since we're DVC members, its a decision between the DVC resorts. As you can tell from my screen name, OKW is our first choice. But we also love BCV, especially when our goal for that trip is a lot of Epcot time. And the new AKL will be on our list for sometime in the next year or so - although I think we'll wait until the new section opens.

Beach Club has daily free activities/games outside by the pool for the kiddies.

While I am a BWV gal myself, I think SAB at BCV is a great pool for younger kids because of the sand pool area. Little kids love it and it is easy to keep track of them there. I think that it is harder to watch 7 to 10 year-old children who may like the slide and lazy river but may not be old enough yet to be only semi-supervised.

You've named 3 of our 4 favorite resorts. If you love AKV, you will probably also love VWL. And BCV is great for being right outside Epcot and across from the Boardwalk.

SSR is our home resort and we love it. We have stayed twice at AKL before it was DVC and loved it then. We can't wait to stay there with DVC. We have also stayed at WL twice but not VWL. We have a studio reserved for one night after our VB stay in May. We will stay at OKW next weekend for the first time with my sister's family. I hope we will all like it, as well. I'm sure we will. After those trips, we will have BWV and BCV to try. We want to try them all! I think the previous posters suggestions with your children in mind are all excellent suggestions. We choose VWL for our one night in May because she thought we were going to have our 3 year old granddaughter with us. I think she is chickening out, though. Too much time away from Mommy! To a three year old, a week is a long time!

I would really love to try OKW, but I thought since next year we can still go in January when it isn't as tough to get into BCV, VWL or BWV, we could try for one of those. We own at SSR with an add-on at AKV. Do you think I will have luck at the 7 month window for either the week of January 3rd or the week of January 10th? We would stay for one week. We would be looking for a 2 bedroom. The MLK Jr. holiday is Monday, January 19th, so we would avoid that week. I want to try all of the resorts, and I figured that we will always be able to stay at SSR since it is our home resort and have a decent chance at OKW. VWL appeals to me because of the theming and close proximity to MK. On the other hand, BCV appeals to me because it is walking distance to Epcot. We like to walk everywhere! It is also close to BWV and has the great pool area. Thank you for your thoughts!

well, I'm biased, (as our most of us ;) but I would definitely vote for BCV!

That's our home resort since 2003 and we love it there! We've also wanted to try all the rest and so far, we've gotten to OKW, AKV and SSR and all are lovely as well!

The things I love about BCV are SAB which is a wonderful pool and the fact that you can walk over to Epcot and BWV. It gives you lots of options for things to do, especially if you just want to do something within walking distance. Where else do you have so many choices of restaurants that you can walk to!

It's so nice to able to try them all. But just had to give my vote for BCV, I know you'll love it!

Marathon weekend is Jan. 8 - 11, 2009, so those dates may be harder to get. Early January seems to be getting more difficult since Disney extends things like Osborne lights a few days past Jan. 1. MLK weekend can be tough, so the end of January may be your best bet.

We have to travel the first 3 weeks of January so we can use our annual passes again. If we can't get someplace other than our home resort, it is no big deal. We would love to try different places, but if not, I am just thrilled to be at Disney!

Quick questions about transportation at BCV. I know you can walk to Epcot. You enter through World Showcase...can you do that at 9am? You can also take the boat to MGM? As far as MK goes, is the quickest way to get there the bus, or walking to Epcot and taking the monorail?

Thank you so much for all of your help!

Yes, the World Showcase entrance opens at the same time as the front entrance for Epcot.

You can also walk to Hollywood Studios (MGM) or take the boat. It is a longer walk than Epcot, but definitely doable. We walked from Epcot to HS while we were there last week.

For MK, you can do either. The bus is probably faster. To take the Monorail you have to walk all the way to the front of Epcot. Then you have to switch Monorails at the Transportation Center.
