Where to stay near Mount Vernon?

We are arriving at Dulles at 6.30pm on a Friday night - have a timeshare in Williamsburg booked for the next day but thought we would spend the night near Mount Vernon and visit George Washington's house the next day before travelling to Williamsburg. Any suggestions where to stay that night?

Don't know if this helps, but we stopped at Mount Vernon on our way to North Carolina last summer and stayed at a Red Roof Inn in Arlington, VA. It was extremely basic, not even a restaurant, but it's about 2 miles from Mount Vernon and right off the highway, so the next morning we were on our way in minutes and because we were heading south, avoided all the Washington, DC traffic. There were a whole slew of hotel/motels along that strip.

Meanwhile, we all loved Mount Vernon; my 7 year old DD did cartwheels all over that beautiful lawn and my DH, who was skeptical about going, kept saying how unbelievably beautiful it was. Enjoy!!
