Where to stay in London - 3 nights June 2016

Family of 4 will be heading to Europe June 17 thru July 4, the first stop will be London for 3 days/nights. Trying to find a central hotel, hostel, etc to sleep and shower...Most of the time we will be touring... Trying to use a budget of $75 to $125 american dollars per night if possible. Any suggestions?

Check kayak.com. That price range in London in the summer means options will be limited, but if you are willing to stay a bit further out, it will work. Remember the Tube is expensive, so add that to cost of room. There is a YHA I stayed at years back on Oxford St, that was reasonable.

No suggestions but London is unbelievably pricy right now. My parents just got back from Capri and London and my mom, who has been to London numerous time in the past, couldn't believe how busy and expensive London is. They stayed in a nice hotel but their $600/night room was tiny. I'd still go in a heartbeat if I could though!

I've stayed at International Student's House, it's a plain but clean hostel in a great location, families stay there too. You can rent whole rooms.

Your price is pretty unrealistic for London. Try checking out tripadvisor.

Yeah that budget isn't realistic.

Even for a hostel, staying in a "family style" private room you will pay $200/night for 4 people. You could bunk for cheaper, but that's not super realistic for a family. Bunking means your family of 4 would sleep in non-private bunk beds in a big room of like 8-10 bunk beds, with communal bathrooms. Many times these rooms are also segregated by gender so half of the family in one area, half in the other.

If your just looking for a room to sleep and shower then it's also worth considering Premier Inns, at the moment they have a Premier Saver so the room rate is discounted but you need to pre-pay now in full and if you want to cancel or amend then there's no refunds.
But if you need the flexibility to amend then you'll need to book a Premier Flexible rate and that's possibly over your planned budget.

Here's one example, it's at London County Hall (sorry no A/C) it's on the south side of the Thames and it's only about a half mile walk to Westminster Bridge, once over the bridge you have the Houses of Parliament and then about a mile away there's Buckingham Palace.
Rates are cheaper over the weekend and so long as your children are under 16 you can book a family room for 4.

What about a serviced apartment? If you have a kitchen, you can save $ on meals and spend a little more on a place to stay.

This^^ We stayed in London after our DCL cruise this past summer and stayed at the Premier Inn St. Pancras and it's a pretty new hotel with awesome reviews. I want to say I paid about $500 or less or 3 nights for the three of us. I highly recommend them and we were very satisfied.

We also stayed in a Premier Inn. It was way out in West Croyden, but we needed tube tickets anyway.

If you don't mind a shared bathroom -- tons of baths, very clean, etc. the Oxford Street youth hostel is superb. You use a large clean bathroom/shower privately, but it's in the hallway, not connected to your room. They get a large mix of ages with older people and families staying there as well as younger people. My son who is 19 and a friend of his paid about (59 GBP) $85 for a private bunk room with one bunk bed high season last summer. You can book a family room there and staff are super friendly and helpful. The location is very central. Here's a web link.

In the summer I see those family rooms are running about 105 GPB a night. So this great shared bath place when you convert to US dollars and include taxes is more than you are wanting to spend. They have a self catering kitchen here too and that can help you save a few dollars also. A dollar right now buys .65 GBP, so you are talking about $162 a night for a family room at this option before taxes. // I did want to mention this place, though, for your consideration as my son and his friend really loved it and the location is soooo good and I think it would be a really fun place to stay.

More central and this place is as central as you can get usually means more $. Less Central (tube ride) might mean less $s. You may need to make some location / $s trade offs. London is very popular and very expensive high season.

We stayed at Marlin Apartments last time in London down in Canary Wharf. Clean, and close to the tube. Check it out. Also, much less than a hotel room.
