Where to stay in Downtown Disney? Or off-site?

Hello All-
It has been ages since I posted a note. We found out on Friday that my husband has to go to Orlando next week- aaaahhhhh!! So excited but to plan a trip and pack in a week is insane. Well it could be worse.

Anyway we can not stay onsite due to the fact that his company would have a problem with that, he's suppossed to be hard at work (hehehe). Whether we could stay onsite or not our first choice is always the Swan/Dolphin. And that is where we are hoping to stay but I don't know their availablity and what kind of rate we can get so close to arriving and if the company will agree to it (everyone else is staying at the Marriott Airport). Keep your fingers crossed that we won't have to stay there. I shouldn't say that we will have a good time no matter what and we are extending out trip by 3 nights so we can stay whereever we want then (oh i hope its the Swan/Dolphin).

SSSSOOOO my real question is where should we stay in Downtown Disney or any where else off-site, if we can't get to stay at the Swan/Dolphin? DH and I are travelling with our DS17 month old. Good transportation to the parks is essential. DH will be taking the rental everyday to his conference, leaving DS and myself to fend for ourselves.

please give me feedback asap. I am going to need to book somewhere soon.
thank you.

Well, if good transportation is essential than you really should be staying at a Disney resort, but I understand why you're not. I would have to recommend the Hilton @ DTD because it is literally right across the street from DTD and they do have bus service to the parks, and you get the Extra Magic Hour privelage as well. We just stayed there last week, and it was a decent place. There are several restaurants, the staff is nice, and the rooms are adequate, if not a bit on the small size.

By the way, this thread might get moved to the "Orlando hotel" board. Just an FYI.

I really hope we end up being able to stay at the Swan/Dolphin. I love that place and transportation won't be an issues then.

Thank for the recommendation for the Hilton. Have you heard anything about the Doubletree (I thought the one bedroom suite might be nice with DS, I would have somewhere to hang out when he napped and slept at night)?

....DON'T stay at the Courtyard by Marriott!!! YUKKK!!!!

One suggestion is the Hyatt Grand Cyprus Resort Lake Buena Vista area.
Grand Cyprus Resort

Haven't stayed at the Hilton personally, but we have had friends stay at the Hilton and they enjoyed it with no complaints. Hope you enjoy your stay wherever you end up.:)

We decided to stay at the Dolphin (its one of my favorite resorts). Now we are just waiting to see if DH's company will let us stay there for the whole trip. I like that fact that I can walk to Epcot and MGM. I love the grounds and pool area. Oooohhh I am getting so excited.

Thanks for all your information.

I have a feeling the Dolphin is going to be much more expensive than the Airport Marriott. So... I would go back to DTD if that does not work out. I have stayed at the Marriott Courtyard and would stay there again. It and the Hotel Royal Plaza are probably priced closer to the Airport Marriott then the Hilton or Dolphin.

....did you try pricing a "Value" on-site location??? (just a thought)

We couldn't stay at an on-site hotel because my husband's company would never go for it.

It all worked out because the Swan/Dolphin is always our first choice and we got a good deal. DH's company approved it already so we're ready to go.

I am so excited. I can't believe I am going to be there in less than a week. And last week at this time, I had not a thought that I would be able to go this year.
