Where to stay for a split-stay?

We are actually waiting to hear from the Disney Gods on ROFR, but I am already planning......I have lots of time. We are not going to WDW until summer 2008. I never considered a split-stay until I started reading the Dis DVC boards. Now I am totally convinced that is what we will do. My question is, if you had a split-stay of two or maybe even three DVC resorts, which ones would you choose and why? We will be there for a week. I am wondering which resorts have views of fireworks, great pools, close proximity to the different parks, etc. You get the idea. Thanks so much for the info. :)

what is your home resort going to be? Depending on that will probably determine where one of your stays will be if you are traveling in a busy time of year. Try VWL and BWV or BC.

Our home resort will be SSR.....

Bumping.....and we passed ROFR!

So now I am really pumped to start planning....

Where would you stay if "split-staying"? Our home resort is SSR and we will be there for a week.....

Thanks. :)

We will try our first split stay in November...BCV and VWL. I'll let you know how it goes.

For a week, I wouldn't move more than once, so pick two resorts. Which parks do you plan on spending a lot of time at? Or do you have older kids who might like to stay within walking distance of DTD? How much time will you spend at the pools?

My first choice: I'd do SSR and a two night mid-week stay at VB!!!

OR - I'd do SSR and try for two nights at BWV (or BCV if it appeals to you) an use those as my MGM/EPCOT days. If you are going to try to participate in anything "special" (Like Star Wars weekend/Illuminations Cruise/etc) it will be very nice to have the boat/walking options to MGM and EPCOT for that day/night.

We will be going to WDW in 3 weeks. We are staying 3 nights at SSR then transferring over to OKW:)

Exactly! We go for 12-13 days each summer and split our stays. Our home is OKW so we stay there for about 6 days and then move to either BWV or BCV. It's a real nice combination of relaxation at OKW and activity choices along the Boardwalk. BTW, we stayed at SSR this past June and liked it alot.

Since you'll be at SSR, a wonderful contrast would be 1, either of the EP DVC's, or 2, VWL for MK and its phenomenal decor and setting. Those three would be more of a complete change of scene than OKW would be to SSR.
Good luck whatever your plans and :welcome: home!

That is exactly what I was thinking! I can't believe I am thinking about this 20 months out.....it's just so exciting for me!

Thanks, y'all! :thanks:

We had a split stay last month. We went to OKW for 5 days. My 75 yo Dad was with us I thought he would enjoy it. Then we moved to WL for the weekend - again thinking Dad would love it and stayed conceirge - for me and Hubby going from a 2 BR to a regular hotel room, needed that get away lounge. Finally moved to the BCV for the last 6 days - thinking of DS 9 and the pool.

We love splitting our stay between resorts.

We've done a split stay and, now being DVC members, I wouldn't do it again. I know I'm coming back, so I make my next reservation at the other resort I want to stay at. That homeless day in the middle just isn't worth it, as is the packing up again and unpacking one more time.

I'd just make a stay at a single DVC resort for the first trip and plan on that other resort for my next trip. You know that you will back often enough that you can try them all over and over again.

Now, if it came to a time when I couldn't get one place to stay at the entire time, I guess I would split my stay rather than not go.

I agree with Deb - the last thing I want to do with my valuable vacation time is pack and unpack and pack and unpack again in the middle of it - especially if there are groceries/snacks to move, too. I also don't like checking out and back in again and not having a room for several hours in the middle of the day or waiting for Bell Services to deliver my bags. Can't imagine how anyone with small children or without a car would even consider doing this voluntarily, LOL. I have done it when I couldn't get the whole stay at one resort - a result of the failure on my part to plan properly, LOL.

But I know there are those that think those activities/inconveniences are a reasonable price to pay for staying at more than one place. :teeth:

We have done a lot of split stays. If you are only going for a week, I would just split between 2 resorts. We stayed at 3 different places last year but we went for 16 days!!

We've split our stay between VWL and OKW (loved both, of course VWL is our home resort). Next time we're going to split between OKW and BWV. Since you're staying at SSR, I wouldn't move on to OKW. I would pick someplace not in that area. We love VWL so I vote for that!

We did a split stay with our trip last month. We stayed at BCV for 5 nights and VWL for 4 nights. We had never stayed at either resort even though BCV is now our home resort. I was shocked when I called about 2 months before for reservations and found that these resorts were available so I took them. My DH and I agree with what others have said. In the future we will stay in only one resort each stay preferring not to have to pack mid-trip.

We really enjoyed the view of Wishes from VWL. We watched one night from the beach followed the Electric Water Pageant and then saw the first Hollowishes fireworks as we were parking our car. The view was the parking lot was as good or better than from the beach!

I have had several split stays and really don't think it is an inconvenience--it gives a change of scenery and mood, especially when you have an 8 or 9-day stay. I have even done with small grandchildren and they enjoy the different pools, etc. to visit.

We are not "without" a room in the middle of the day because when we check out, we are in the parks and upon return, just go to the "new" resort. It is especially nice that your bags can be picked up at your room and moved to the next resort, waiting for you.

If I had a short stay, I probably wouldn't split though.

In June we are doing a split stay first 5 days at BCV and then 5 days at SSR. Since we are staying at HHI in December, VWL in January we will have then stayed all but OKW and VB.

I am hoping to do a GV at OKW Jan 2008!

SInce we no longer commando WDW I do not mind moving in a trip. Each DVC resort has something special it is fun to move around.
