Where to stay at Disneyland?

Hi Everyone,

I need help finding two hotel rooms for two nights before our Mexican Riviera cruise. We have 8 people in our party (6 adults, DD11, and DD4).

I was looking at the Disney hotels but they seem to be more costly than the Value resorts at Disneyworld. Are there more reasonably priced hotels that are within walking distance to the park? I have seen Best Western Stoval, Candy Cane Inn and Howard Johnson mentioned on here....but could someone who have stayed at any of these properties before, give me an idea of what the hotels are like? Are they clean, recently renovated, have breakfast included, microwave in room, shuttle to park or walking distance to park?

I've always stayed on-site when we travelled to Disneyworld but this is our first time going to Disneyland. We will be at Disneyland March 25-26 and our cruise is from March 27 to April 3.

Thanks for any help.

There are many choices for walking distance hotels. See the links in this thread:

"HydroGuy's Hotel Rule" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1199862

Two that are popular around here are the HoJo's and Candy Cane Inn. I prefer to be as close as possible and would choose BWPPI or Tropicana. You will likely get a ton of recommendations in a thread like this which will A) make it even more confusing and B) let you know that there are a lot of choice and, for the most part, it is hard to go wrong. :)

Have a magical trip! :wizard:

We love HOJO's as it's kept immaculate, staff always eager to help, Pirate play area for the kids, rooms are large, and well maintained. If you are staying near the front of the hotel complex it's a 7 min walk, and in building 2 a 10 min walk if only for the reason that you are walking from the back of the property. There's no free brekki, but their gift shop is fully stocked with breakfast items and are relatively reasoably priced. I have stayed there twice in the past year and a half, and am planning on staying there on our surprise trip to the mouse the beginning of Feb. A return customer is the best sign of a good hotel, and it's the only hotel we will stay at while visiting the mouse. That and they have upgraded their coffee makers to the Keurig coffee system, and IMHO their coffee blows away what swill they consider coffee in the parks, and will only drink the hotels coffee while visiting DL. Liked the coffee system so much that when I got home, bought the more expensive version of it, and have been in coffee heaven ever since.

I would forget Stovals it's not that close. The thing is almost everywhere has a shuttle but usually it is public transport not hotel specific. And while it may be convinient it's not super convinient.

Since you only have a couple days followed by the cruise I would spend as much time as possible in the parks and relax on the ship. I would make distance and breakfast priorities to save time.

The only recently renovated place that comes to mind are the delux rooms of the Ramada Maingate.

We've stayed at Candy Cane Inn in the past and it is very nice. It is extremely well kept with beautiful gardens. It has breakfast included. It also has its own shuttle to DLR (unusual as most use the ART shuttle), but is actually walking distance to DLR. It is just nice to have the shuttle if you're tired.

Howard Johnson also has a huge following on this board. I haven't stayed there, but know people who have and they all loved it. It does not have breakfast included, but there are restaurants nearby. I think Mimi's is next door.

I think you can't go wrong with either of these choices.

We stayed at the Park Vue after Christmas and it was very reasonable and it is right across the street from DL. It has a breakfast and social hour(dinner) that are included. Really liked it will stay there again.

We have stayed at the HOJO and it is well worth it. Clean and just the right distance away from the crowds at the main gate. Mimi's the restaurant next door is awesome.

You may be able to get the entertainment rate for the time you are there.

We plan to go back to the Candy Cane in July for our third stay there. You can see pictures in my review. Just click on the link in my sig. I believe it is a tad closer than Hojos and is about a 7 minute walk to the gates. (I'll have to time it next time, and we don't have small children) The only thing I don't like about CCI is the coffee. I think they must get theirs from the same mud hole as DLR! :rotfl2:
